Telegram Rolls Out New Features Including Custom Notification Sounds, Auto Delete

Synopsis: Under the Custom Notification Sounds feature, the users will be able to turn any sound into a notification tone. The sounds may include the users’ favorite music, own voice, or even voices of memes.

Telegram which is a Russian cross-platform, cloud-based, instant messaging app is rolling out a range of new features in order to improve the user experience on the platform. The new features on the app include custom notifications sounds, custom mute durations, an auto-delete menu in profiles, bot development tools, etc.

Under the Custom Notification Sounds feature, the users will be able to turn any sound into a notification tone. The sounds may include the users’ favorite music, own voice, or even voices of memes. While updating about the features, Telegram in a blog post has mentioned that the sound or voice should not go beyond 5 seconds and 300 KB in size. This feature can be accessed by users by tapping on Settings > Notifications and Sounds.

On the hand, the ‘Mute Notifications’ option is already available to users however they are provided with options of muting chats for 8 hours to 2 days or ‘Disable Sound’ in order to receive notifications silently. But, under the new feature, Telegram users will be able to pause notifications according to their convenience. The platform in its blog post mentions, 

Now you can also pause notifications for a specific duration, like the length of a midday nap or extended vacation.

In the new ‘Auto-Delete Menu’ the platform will allow the users to set-up an auto-delete chats using the feature. Under this, the user will be required to set up an auto-deleting timer that will eventually auto-delete the chat according to the timer. The options under this feature include 2 days, 3 weeks, 4 months, and more.

Along with this, the platform has also added a feature that will add a small preview (generated from the swipe left feature of replying to messages) in forwarded messages. Telegram mentioned this feature in the blog post saying, 

These same reply previews are now included when forwarding messages to other chats, so everyone can see the full context of your inside jokes.

Apart from the mentioned features, the platform has kept the needs of developers in mind as it has brought supporting tools for them which will be helpful in creating a better and enhanced interface for Telegram bots. According to the blog post, Telegram bots will be able to replace any website.

The company has also launched various other features through the updates that include, picture-in-picture mode on Android which will allow users to watch videos, favorite shows, and that too while chatting. Also, the app will showcase animated food emojis as well.
