V for Vendetta is based on a novel written by British writers Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Released in 2005, it is a dystopian political action film which is directed by McTeigue. In the movie, the freedom fighter (V) allegedly used terrorist tactics to fight against an oppressive regime. The movie revolves around the main character V and shows its relationship with anarchy or the absence of government. In this article, let’s get to know more about the cast of V for Vendetta in detail. 

V for Vendetta movie was distributed by Warner Bros Pictures. The movie earned 132.5 million dollars at the box office while the budget of the movie was 50-54 million dollars. It was a hit in the cinema. The IMDb rating of the movie is 8.2. It is one of the top-rated movies on IMDb. It has won 7 awards the movie was also nominated for other 29 awards. The cast of the V for Vendetta movie portrayed their characters very well on the screen so, it was able to attract the audience towards it. Let’s look at the star cast of the movie.

Starcast of V for Vendetta

1. Hugo Weaving as V

Hugo Weaving is an actor/producer born on April 4, 1960, in Nigeria. He plays the character of V in V for Vendetta who is a charismatic, mysterious anarchist, vigilante freedom fighter. He is easily recognizable by his Guy Fawkes mask, long hair, and dark clothing. In the movie, he is one of the parts of a group of prisoners who are subjected to horrific medical experiments, conducted by Dr. Delia Surridge. All the other prisoners die under gruesome circumstances but V survives with no physical harm Surridge theorizes that his mind was warped by the experiments. 

The experiments gave some benefits to the character like Olympic-level reflexes, increased strength, expanded mental capacity, etc. He spend his five years and built a secret base called the “Shadow Gallery” to take revenge on the Norsefire government. In the process of taking revenge, he kills 40 surviving personnel and saves Prothero, Lilliman, and Surridge last.

2. Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond

Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman plays the character of Evey Hammond. who grew up on Shooters Hill. Evey’s father was arrested when she was a child and executed by Norsefire because of his socialist political leanings. Her mother also died in the nuclear war which took place in the early 1980s. After that, she was sent to a youth hostel where she is forced to work packing matches into boxes and then starts to work at a munitions factory. Because of poverty, Evey turns out to become a prostitute. The first customer she attracts was a member of Norsefire’s secret police but before he begins to rape her she was saved by the leading character “V”

After that, she starts to depend on V for her safety and tries to repay his kindness by going to distract Anthony James Lilliaman according to his command. When Evey was abandoned by V she meets another character in the streets who becomes her lover named Gordon Deitrich but he was also murdered by a gangster. So, now she runs on the path of taking revenge. In this process, she was caught and kept in prison but she realized that this all was planned by V to make her realize the value of her freedom. But unfortunately, V dies in the arms of Evey handing her over the final step of his revenge.

3. Stephen Rea as Eric Finch

Stephen Rea is an Irish film and stage actor who plays the role of Eric Finch who is a prominent character and former supporting antagonist. He is the chief of New Scotland Yard and Minister of Investigations, and also a leading official Fascist Norsefire government that rules England. When V starts to kill the Norsefire’s leading officials and promises. At a moment to undermine the regime Finch makes a personal mission to arrest him. At a moment in the film although he understands his desire of V to ruin the government by reading the diary of Surridge he still remains loyal to the party. When Finch and V confront each other at the Victoria Station he shoots and mortally wounds V.

4. Stephen Fry as Gordon Deitrich

Stephen Fry is an English actor who portrays the role of Gordon Deitrich who was the boyfriend of Evey Hammond. After Evey was abandoned by V, she meets Deitrich in the streets and becomes his lover. After the attack of V’s in Jordan Tower, Gordon Deitrich had a disagreement with an old friend who murdered him the next day.

5. John Hurt as Adam Sutler

John Hurt was an English actor born on 22 January 1940 and died in January 2017. He acted as Adam Sutler who is a Fascist leader of a conservative party. His motive is to control the whole city and the lives of the citizens. He was the kind of person who runs the whole country with his own fundamental rules.

6. Tim Pigott-Smith as Peter Creedy

Tim Pigott-Smith was an English film and television actor born on 13 May 1946. He played the role of Peter Creedy who is the “Bully Boy” of Adam Sutler. He portrays the character of a leader affiliated with Norsefire’s Party. He is a character who is purely motivated by self-interest and can get through anyone who he has to trample on to get it.

7. Rupert Graves as Dominic Stone

Rupert Graves is an English film, television, and theatre actor born on 30 June 1963. He played the role of Dominic Stone the assistant of Inspector Eric Finch. He is a very hard-working member of society.

8. Roger Allam as Lewis Prothero

Roger Allam is a British actor born on 26 October 1956. He acted as Lewis Prothero who was the former Commander of “Larkhill Resettlement Camp”. He was also one of the targets of V. V kidnapping him from a train. He is driven crazy by the overdose of Batch 5 drugs and seeing his prized doll collection burned in a mock recreation of Camp Larkhill in V’s headquarters. He was also killed by V in his shower.

9. Sinead Cusack as Dr Delia Surridge

Going ahead with the V for Vendetta movie star cast, Sinead Cusack is an Irish actress born on 18 February 1948. She portrayed the role of Dr. Delia Surridge who was one of the targets of V. Dr. Delia Surridge created a chemical hormone treatment and name it Batch 5 and started to distribute it to the selected prisoners in the Larkhill Resettlement Camp. Over four dozen of prisoners experimented with the dose of Batch 5 but only 25 percent of them survived and V was one of them. V collected supplies of ammonia and fertilizer and used them to orchestrate his escape. Larkhill was closed and Surridge was transferred to London. Then, she worked at Norsefire investigative agency and engaged in a relationship with Eric. In late 1997, V injected Sturridge with a lethal poison.

10. John Standing as Anthony Lilliman

John Standing is an English actor who was born on 16 August 1934. He played the role of Anthony Lilliman who was a corrupt clergyman. He was a chaplain at the Larkhill Detention Center. He was tasked to monitor the “rules and rights” violation but the money was used to keep his mouth shut. After Larkhill was closed Lilliman becomes Bishop of London. Lilliman used to molest underage girls every Sunday evening which was provided by an agency. At last with the help of Evey, V killed Lilliman by forcing him to swallow a poisoned communion wafer.
