Rolf Schock Prize

Rolf Schock, an artist, and philosopher who lived from 1933 to 1986 gave a donation that helped create and finance the Rolf Schock Prizes. The Rolf Schock Prize in Visual Arts will be awarded to Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas in 2022. The Icelandic pianist Vkingur Òlafsson will get the Rolf Schock Prize in Musical Arts in 2022 “for his pioneering and effective work in expanding and enhancing classical music.” Òlafsson is one of today’s most original and creative musicians. He has collaborated with composers like Philip Glass and Danel Bjarnason and has won numerous significant awards, including BBC Music Magazine’s Recording of the Year. He has participated with prestigious orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Los Angeles and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and is in Residence at the Konzerthaus Berlin.
