National Career Service (NCS): One of the mission mode projects of the E-Governance Plan is the National Career Service (NCS). It focuses on bridging the employment gap so that candidates looking for training and career counseling are offered by various organizations involved in training and career counseling.

What is National Career Service?

  • Various employment-related services, including job matching, career counseling, vocational coaching, information on skill development courses, apprenticeships, internships, etc., were envisioned for the National Employment Service to deliver through an online portal.
  • Indians can access a wide range of employment and career-related services at one location thanks to the National Career Service (NCS).
  • The Ministry of Labour & Employment’s Directorate General of Employment administers this program.

Components of National Career Service (NCS)

  • Through Aadhaar-based verification, it links job seekers, employers, counselors, and training providers.
  • Online registration is cost-free and available.
  • More than 3000 job opportunities from 53 important industry categories are covered on the portal.

Career Centers – Sources of Services Related to Your Career

When people are unable to register themselves online, they can do so by going to the nearest Career Center, where they can register themselves and receive updates about all types of jobs, career counseling, job fairs, and other employment-related services.

Call Center – An assistance line for the NCS platform

  • There is a multilingual call centre that can assist people who are having trouble registering or have other related questions.
  • From Tuesday through Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM, the Call Center is open for business.

  • To provide immediate access to job searchers, a separate link has been made for online training and work-from-home jobs on the NCS portal’s home page.
  • In collaboration with HIREMEE, a platform that offers online assessment and recruiting services, this portal also provides the option for job searchers to establish video profiles, allowing them to demonstrate their abilities to recruiters through the use of brief video clips and other services.
  • Offer career skills training in soft skills that enables students to improve their personalities through programs on business etiquette, strengthening interpersonal skills, creating compelling presentations, etc.

Achievements of NCS

  • More than 1000 job exchanges nationwide, including 200 Model Career Centers, are affiliated with NCS.
  • About 1 crore job seekers and 54,000 employers are registered on the portal.

But in a report, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour emphasized the underutilization of money at the Union Labour and Employment Ministry, noting that as of February 10, 2020, the ministry had not spent close to 20% of its 2019-2020 Budget (updated estimate).

National Career Service (NCS) Project

  • The National Career Service (NCS) program of the Ministry of Labour and Employment has already started providing free online “Career Skills Training” to its registered job seekers in partnership with TCS ION.
