Synopsis – The company added this feature so that people in the group do not miss any important announcements in the group or if someone does not want to bother people they can use /silent and express their thoughts. The /silent feature is also available on Meta-owned Instagram and you can use this if you do not want people to receive any notification of the messages that you have sent.

One of the most popular messaging applications Facebook Messenger, owned by Meta, is adding several updates by introducing new shortcuts to it. The shortcuts will be available for both Android and iOS users where they can use the special features of /Silent and @Everyone. As per Facebook Messenger, these features are one of the first shortcuts to be used by the users of messengers and they have also asked their users to stay tuned as Meta will be launching several new features by the end of this year.

On Tuesday, the company wrote in their latest blog post, which said,

Enter the @everyone and /silent shortcuts, available today to people using Messenger on iOS and Android. When you start a message with @everyone, all participants in the chat will be notified. @everyone is perfect for group reminders, impromptu get-togethers or when you need to gather the braintrust to crowdsource an answer to a time-sensitive question.

In a Facebook post, the company also wrote,

We’re excited today to introduce shortcuts on Messenger, a new command system to help supercharge your messaging efficiency and add a little extra fun to your experience.

The company added this feature so that people in the group do not miss any important announcements in the group or if someone does not want to bother people they can use /silent and express their thoughts. The /silent feature is also available on Meta-owned Instagram and you can use this if you do not want people to receive any notification of the messages that you have sent. On this feature, the Messenger team also added,

Sending a message with /silent removes the anxiety of interrupting someone with a non-urgent pop-up notification or disturbing them during their off-hours. Now, you can share those late-night epiphanies at the moment without disturbing the peace, and your friends can read your message at their leisure.

Here is the list of a few Messenger Shortcuts which will be added soon:

  1. /silent– already available on Instagram, this shortcut will help you to send messages to people without notifying them address as /silent, hence there will be no notification for the group members.
  2. @everyone– this shortcut is useful for giving any important information to every person present in the group.
  3. /shrug & /tableflip– this will be useful for sending old emoticons or old-school text-based tableflip also known as ASCII emoticons.
  4. /gif– this particular feature will only be available for iPhone users and can be used for sending GIFs by just typing the shortcut on the screen.
  5. /pay– the payment option is available on WhatsApp but not as a shortcut. So this will start on Facebook messenger also where users will be able to send or receive money directly through chat, and currently, this feature is only available in the United States.

Hence, all these features will be brought for both personal and professional uses, along with this, things will become easy for the users.
