State Grid Corporation of China – Number 1 Chinese Company

The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), known as State Grid, is a big company owned by the government. It provides electricity and is the largest company of its kind worldwide. As of 2022, it’s the third biggest company globally in terms of revenue, after Walmart and Saudi Aramco. In 2022, it had about 871,145 employees, served around 1.1 billion customers, and made approximately $460 billion.

It’s overseen by a government agency called the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. In 2002, there was a change in how electricity was managed, called the Electricity Plant-Grid Separation reform. It split the assets of the State Electric Power Corporation into five groups that kept the power plants, and five regional branches that were part of the State Grid Corporation of China in Beijing.
