The Goods and Services Tax (GST) portal is the central hub for managing your GST registration and compliance in India. Your registered mobile number is crucial as it receives important updates and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for various actions on the portal. If you change your phone number, it’s essential to update it within the GST system to ensure you continue to receive these communications.

Understanding Authorised Signatories

  • Primary Authorized Signatory: The main contact person for your GST account, usually a proprietor, partner, or key company official.
  • Secondary Authorized Signatory: An additional authorized person for GST communications.

Steps to Change Your Mobile Number

The process to change your mobile number on the GST portal depends on whether you’re updating the primary authorized signatory’s number or a different authorized signatory’s number.

Changing the Primary Authorized Signatory’s Mobile Number

  1. Visit the GST portal (https://www.gst.gov.in/) and log in using your credentials.
  2. Go to Services > Registration > Amendment of Registration Non-core Fields.
  3. Click on the “Promoter/Partners” tab.
  4. Locate the primary authorized signatory and click the “Edit” button next to their details.
  5. Enter your new mobile number in the designated field. You can also change your email address if required.
  6. Click “Save“. An OTP will be sent to both your old and new mobile numbers. Enter these OTPs to confirm the changes.
  7. Go to the “Verification” tab. Check the declaration and submit the form with either a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC), E-signature, or Electronic Verification Code (EVC).

Changing a Non-Primary Authorized Signatory’s Mobile Number

  1. Visit the GST portal (https://www.gst.gov.in/) and log in using your credentials.
  2. Go to Services > Registration > Amendment of Registration Non-core Fields.
  3. Click on the “Promoter/Partners” tab.
  4. Click on the “Authorized Signatory” tab.
  5. Click “Add New” and enter the details of your new signatory, including their new mobile number and email address.
  6. Proceed to the “Verification” tab (as in step 7 above) and Submit the application with the appropriate verification method.

Note: Once you submit the application, you’ll receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) to track its status. The approval process may take some time. You can check the status of your request on the GST portal. Your old mobile number may remain temporarily associated with the account during the transition.

Tips: Consider adding an alternate or secondary mobile number to ensure that important notifications still reach you in case there are issues with your primary number.

By following these steps, you can easily change your mobile number on the GST portal and maintain the security and accessibility of your GST account.

Why Update Your Mobile Number?

  • Security: Updating your mobile number ensures that only you receive sensitive OTPs and notifications related to your GST account.
  • Communication: Stay informed about filing deadlines, changes to GST rules, and other important updates.
  • Accessibility: Maintain seamless access to your GST account for filing returns and other necessary processes.

Changing your mobile number linked to your GST account is a quick and straightforward process. By following these instructions, you can ensure that you continue to receive important updates and OTPs without any interruptions to your GST compliance.
