Herbivores and Carnivores are two different types of Heterotrophic organisms; known for their dependence on another organism to complete their dietary demands. The herbivores complete their dietary demands by feeding on the primary producers(Plants), whereas the Carnivores are flesh-eating organisms and feed on secondary or tertiary-level of organisms (Herbivores).

Herbivorous

Herbivorous animals depend on plant and plant products for their energy requirements; they can easily digest plant products for their energy requirements, and their body shape, secretive enzymes, and teeth are varying from the carnivorous. Herbivores need more amount of food; they need more energy to survive. Herbivorous, in comparison to carnivorous, have broad flat teeth that easily chew and crush plants & their product. Herbivorous have long intestines that are capable of detoxifying vitamin -A in the liver.

Carnivorous

Carnivorous animals, for their energy requirement, eat meat as a food source. Carnivores are very active and strong compared to herbivores. Their body structure is different as compared to the herbivorous; they have strong jaw and teeth that can flesh and tear another animal to eat. Carnivores do not have the capability to synthesize vitamins in their intestine as they occur in herbivores.

Characteristics

Herbivorous

Carnivorous

Definition

Herbivorous are those who consume plants and plants product. Carnivorous costumes are the flesh of other animals.

Shape of mouth

The mouth of these animals are very small and flat teeth structure helps in chew and crush the plants and their products. They have a large and strong jaw, their teeth are the canine structure that helps tear the flesh of animals(Prey).

Digestive Enzymes

Herbivorous have the carbohydrate digestive enzyme. Carnivorous does not have carbohydrate digestive enzymes.

Intestinal Structure

The large intestine has the capability to synthesize vitamin-A. Small intestines as compared to herbivorous, do not have the capability to synthesize vitamin-A.

Facial

They have large facial muscles their mouth size is small. They have reduced facial muscle, and they have big & strong jaws.

Excretion

Their urine is moderately concentrated. Their urine is extremely concentrated

Example

Cow, Deer, goat, etc. Lion, Cheetah, Hyena, etc.

Similarities Between Carnivores and Herbivores

  • Both require food for their energy.
  • Both maintain the ecosystem.
  • Both are heterotrophs.

Conclusion

Herbivorous and carnivorous both belong to the group of heterotrophs organism, they both have the capability of digestion, but they can prepare their own food they are dependent on another organism in the ecosystem. They have varying body structures, body systems, and digestion each other, both are important to maintain the ecosystem.
