One of India’s biggest multinational information technology companies “Infosys“, is famous for providing services regarding information technology, outsourcing and business consulting. Founded in the year 1981 by seven engineers in Pune, Maharashtra with only a capital of $250. However, after a few years, in 1983 the company shifted its headquarters to Bangalore, Karnataka, and also changes its name from Infosys Consultants Private Limited to Infosys Technologies Private Limited in 1992 April and then again in the year June 1992 when the company became a public limited company, the name was again changed to Infosys Technologies Limited. Although, we all know it by the name of Infosys Limited which became final in June 2011. 

The company plays a very important part in India’s business development and is the second-largest company in India after Tata Consultancy Services and also became the fourth-Indian company, which grossed around $100 billion revenue in market capitalization. But for taking a company such top level there are numerous people working behind it and Infosys has many names who helped in making it such a big brand. From 1st CEO to the current one, each and every one of them has worked very hard, the names include, Naran Murthy (1981 – March 2002), Nandan Nilekani (March 2002 – April 2007), S Gopalakrishna (April 2007 – August 2011), SD Shibulal (August 2011 – July 2014), Vishal Sikka (August 2014- August 2017), UB Pravin Rao (Interim CEO August 2017 – January 1, 2018), and now the current CEO of Infosys, Salil S Parekh (January 2, 2018, Onwards). 

So in this article, we will be talking about the current CEO of Infosys, Salil Parekh, and talk about his achievements. 

Starting of His Tenure In Infosys

Salil stepped into the company when the company was in a very critical position and was facing a very embarrassing situation being played by then CEO Vishal Sikka and the company which completely shattered the trust of investors and clients. But Parekh took the company’s hold and brought back both trust and investors by balancing the complete situation very efficiently. A man with a soft demeanor Salil Parekh brought back the company in everyone’s good books without any drama, no public posturing, or aggression. 

Since Salil Parekh became the CEO the company has seen a shoot in growth rate as the profits have become quadrupled, many amazing deals have been cracked with very big clients, profit margins have touched the sky the complete market capital has climbed up to 216.87% to Rs 7.12 lakh crore and within the span of very few days that is from January 2, 2018, to February 25, 2018. 

Personal Life and Starting of Career

The current CEO and Managing Director of Infosys, Mr. Salil Parekh is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) in Aeronautical Engineering. He also gained a master’s degree in Engineering from Cornell University, New York in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. The current CEO of Infosys started his career journey in the year 1992 with Ernst & Young’s consultancy division, which eventually merged with Capgemini in 2000 where he served for around 25 years in various positions. Most recently he was in the group of executive board members and was responsible for watching out for Cloud Infrastructure Services and business clusters comprising Application Services among many more. 

Current Tenure and Upcoming Goals

While joining Infosys Mr. Parekh joined it with a particular mindset regarding which he said, “My mandate when I joined was to get Infosys to a path that is more connected with the client”. His first priority is and was clients always and he always makes sure to put a tick in that checkbox. He always remains optimistic about the growth of the company and makes sure that there are no setbacks or glitches while dealing with any customers, clients, or investors. 

According to the reports, he quad tripled the revenue of the company and played very nicely while increasing the digital revenue to 58.5 percent. In his introductory video, he already told how he want to revolutionize the company by reskilling the employees with new technologies on Infosys LeX, which is a platform developed by the company to provide learning solutions for the next generation and help employees with talent transformation. 

Another very important point which he always focused upon is automation, regarding which he said, “We saw many clients of ours needed technology and that made the use of AI and ML necessary, only to increase efficiency. By doing that, they could now free up some of that spend to move it to digital transformation.” Salil is sure that the company will attain a double-digit revenue growth in the upcoming 5 years. Regarding this, he said “Both as a business and as a company, we are in a very good position. We must be vigilant in connecting with the client… We do not want to be complacent.”
