Hey everyone! I’m a student at B P Poddar Institute of Management & Technology (BPPIMT) in Kolkata. I’m at the end of my second year now. It’s an engineering college affiliated with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT). I got into the B. Tech Program in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) through the WBJEE Exam in 2022. In this article, I’m going to share my campus experience, including events, the types of student chapters here, tech activities, forums, the faculty, and placement. So, let’s dive into my first-year journey.

1st-year Experience:

My college started with online classes because of COVID, but later we had classes in person from the first semester. Even though we started online, I still got chances to learn new stuff every day, especially things related to what I was studying. The teachers were really helpful and good at easily explaining hard stuff. We had practical sessions in labs often, not just theory classes. We also had quizzes and sessions where we could ask questions to make sure we understood everything well.

2nd-year Experience:

My second year at college has been amazing! I’ve had a blast hanging out with friends and taking part in lots of fun stuff like contests and workshops. There are these groups called student branches that almost everyone joins. Our college leaders and teachers push us to get involved in them. We’ve got cool societies like ACM, IEEE, and GDSC, plus tons of forums that organize all sorts of events, from cleaning up to coding competitions. This year, I joined the GDSC Core Team and in Tech Forum and checked out events at other colleges too. Our college even started hosting its events, which I tried to attend as many as possible. It’s been a blast!

Academics:

This college offers different courses like B Tech, BBA, BCA, and M Tech. I got in through my WBJEE rank, which was around 7k. But they also accept JEE Main rank for B Tech. If you aim for around 15,000 in WBJEE, you have a good shot at getting in. If you prefer JEE Main, I’m not sure about the rank needed since most students enter through WBJEE.

Faculty:

I like how our teachers teach us in my second year. They’re really good, know their stuff, and they’re helpful too. They encourage us to join in other activities and make sure we have time for them. Our courses follow the rules of our university (MAKAUT), and you just need to get 40% in each subject to pass. In class, it’s friendly and everyone gets along, including the professors and students. The way they teach makes it easy to understand even the toughest topics.

Placements:

I asked some older students about job opportunities at our college, and they said things are looking good. The college helps a lot with job stuff, like hosting seminars, and most students get jobs—about 80-85% every year. The pay is okay, around 4 LPA on average. But here’s the catch: the college doesn’t give free job training. You gotta pay for it, but it’s affordable.

Hostel Facility:

The college has two hostels, one for boys and one for girls. They’re close to the campus, just a 5-minute walk away and a few PGs are also available just beside the college buildings. People say the hostels are nice, with good rules and not too expensive. Even though I don’t live there myself, my friends tell me it’s a good place to stay.

Infrastructure:

Our college is very close to Kolkata Airport, just about 10 minutes away. It’s a small campus with only three buildings. Two of them have lifts, but one doesn’t. The classrooms and labs are nice, but there’s not much space. This makes it crowded during lunch. The canteen works okay, but it requires more bigger complex. Overall, I’m satisfied with the college’s infrastructure but it can be improved.

Conclusion:

I find the institution conducive to skill and career development. Well known for its overall good placements, knowledgeable faculties and secured location, very near to the Kolkata Airport. I think the next two years at my college will be just as awesome as the last one. BPPIMT is great for learning and getting ready for a job. They help with finding good jobs, have smart teachers, and are close to Kolkata Airport, so it’s safe. I got in through WBJEE with a rank of around 7,000, which shows how good the college is.
