Rashtrakuta was a significant ruling dynasty of India which ruled from the 6th to the 10th century. The Rashtrakuta dynasty was a mighty dynasty. Rashtrakuta dynasty occupied most of the areas of present-day central and southern India. According to the archaeological discoveries of copper plate inscriptions, it is believed that the kingdom operated with Manapur as the capital city. Even though it is considered to be one of the greatest dynasties to exist in India there are multiple controversies regarding the origin of the Rashtrakuta.

Though it is believed that the Rashtrakuta dynasty existed even during the Ashoka period, there is no way to establish definite connections between that and the early 6th century. There were several Rashtrakuta kingdoms during the early 6th century, but the prominent period of the dynasty started in the 8th century. It is still not known if both dynasties are connected by a common ancestor or rather unknown whether both dynasties are connected by a common ancestor or name.

The Rashtrakuta Dynasty was the primary stakeholder and decision-maker from the 8th century till the 10th century. The area of this dynasty includes areas of present-day southern and central India. Though it is believed to start from Karnataka, it went on to expand its borders to north India. It was one of the most powerful dynasties of its time.
