Volvo’s tagline has changed multiple times and is now “Volvo, For Life”. Previously used taglines include “SAFETY” and “DRIVE SAFELY”. As Volvo is famed for safety, its taglines have always been close to safety. The phrase “Volvo, For Life” conveys two messages: the first is life safety, and the second is the durability that lasts a lifetime. Volvo has one of the highest build quality in the automobile industry, which helps the vehicles, particularly Volvo cars, last for a person’s life, and the safety measures and assurance that Volvo delivers to customers are unquestionably designed to save one’s life.

About Volvo

Volvo, sometimes known as AB Volvo, is a Swedish automobile manufacturer that primarily manufactures, distributes, and sells heavy-duty vehicles. It is the world’s second-largest maker of heavy-duty trucks and also operates in various industries, including the manufacture and marketing of construction vehicles, buses, automobiles, marine drive systems, industrial drive systems, and financial services.

Volvo began as a subcontractor of SKF, and in 1927, Gustav Larson and Assar Gabrielsson (from SKF) established a separate firm that produced its own automobiles. Volvo Cars were formed as a distinct business from AB Volvo in 1978. Thereafter, Volvo sold Volvo cars to Ford Motors in 1999 and reoriented on heavy-duty and construction vehicles. Volvo cars were manufactured under Ford Motors until 2008 when Ford Motors sold Volvo cars to Geely Holding Group in 2010. Volvo was pushed up to compete with the lower end of BMW and Mercedes during the Ford Motors era, pushing it into the premium luxury category. The company also produced a high luxury crossover and sedan.

Volvo has patented numerous additional safety technologies in addition to the three-point seat belt, including the Side Impact Protection System, Whiplash Protection System, Blind Spot Information System, Roll-Over Protection System, and Dynamic Stability Control. Apart from its safety patents, Volvo has accomplished a number of safety milestones, some of which it integrated into its vehicles ahead of competitors in the same category for example safety cage, rear-facing child seat, child safety cushion, roof-mounted side airbags, collision warning with an automatic brake support system, electrical parking brake system, lane departure warning system, distance alert, pedestrian alert with an automatic braking system, cyclist detection with an automatic braking system, door mounted airbags, windshield airbag for pedestrian safety, driver drowsiness detection cum alert system, knee airbag, lane maintaining aid, cross traffic alert system, road sign detection system, alcohol detection system drivers, head-on crash detection with the auto brake system and many others.

The aforementioned safety elements clearly demonstrate Volvo’s concern for passenger safety as well as the safety of other vehicles and pedestrians on the road. Volvo’s model XC90, built by Geely, proudly boasts ZERO fatality in the car, and it is also claimed that upon any incidence in any Volvo car, an inquiry is conducted, and any flaw in the car is corrected by calling on the entire batch of cars and rectifying it. Not only Volvo cars but also Volvo buses and Volvo trucks have been integrated with advanced safety features.

Summary

Volvo co-founders Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson used to be firm believers in the safety of passengers in vehicles. Volvo cars have one of the strongest material builds, which not only protects the safety of the people inside, but Volvo’s integration with current technologies saves the lives of others on the road. The safety inside a Volvo car is clearly understood by the fact that every model evaluated by the European New Car Assessment Programme since 2009 has gotten 5 stars in safety, thereby confirming the company’s tagline “Volvo, For Life”.
