Power BI – How to upload Workbooks?

Uploading a Workbook to the dataset provides us the power, to use excel online. There are two ways to upload data into Power BI online service, either import the data in Power BI or upload the excel file into Power BI. If you are importing the data into Power BI then, that is called a Dataset, and if you are uploading an excel file, then it is called an upload of the workbook in Power BI. In this article, we will learn how to upload workbooks in Power BI online service.
Uploading a Workbook In Power BI
Given a workspace, name, geeks_for_geeks. For example, we want to upload a workbook, name, time_series.csv into this workspace.
The following are the steps:
Step 1: Open the required workspace. For example, geeks_for_geeks. Click on the +New button.
Step 2: A drop-down list appears. Click on either Dataset or Upload a file. Both options will lead you to the same location. For example, we select Dataset.
Step 3: Now, a new page, name Get Data will be opened. Under the Files card, click on the Get button.
Step 4: Now, we need to select the source location. We can import workbooks from various sources, Local File, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc. For example, click on the Local File.
Step 5: Select the workbook you want to import. For example, our task was to import time_series.csv. Click on the Open button.
Step 6: A new window is opened. Now, we have two options. the first option is to Import Excel data into Power BI, this will lead to the creation of a dataset, as the data is imported into the Power BI online service itself. The second option is to Upload your Excel file To Power BI, this is the required option, as it will upload the file, in the workbook format.
Step 7: The CSV file will be uploaded to the Power BI online service.
Step 8: We, have successfully uploaded a workbook in the Power BI. From the below image, we can see that the Type of the data is Workbook and not Dataset. Click on the uploaded workbook.
Step 9: The excel file will be opened, in the Power BI itself.
