Pre-requisite: Azure

Here in this article, we will show how to assign and Add a Tag Policy for Resource Group in Azure from Azure Portal. With this Add a Tag Policy for Resource Groups we can maintain Real-time control and compliance assessment at scale for all the resource groups within a scope. Assigning a Tag policy helps add a Tag Name and Tag Value to a resource group automatically based on policy assignments. so there is no need to add tags while creating a resource group.

Implementation

Step 1: Log in to Azure Portal

Step 2: Access the Azure Policy from All services or from the global search.

Step 3: After selecting the Azure Policy Service >> from menu select Definitions.

Step 4: Now select your desired scope and type in Add a tag to list the built-in policies in azure.

Step 5: Now, from the list, select “Add a tag to resource group” >> then it lands on the policy definition page.

Step 6: Now click on Assign to add a select scope to “Add a tag to resource group” policy enforcement.

Add a Tag Name and Tag Value that you wish to add by default.

Step 7: Click on Review + Create to continue the changes. 

Now, whenever you or your team, or any user create a resource group in azure at the target scope it automatically adds a Tag Name and Tag Value to the resource group.
