Synopsis: Recently the company also confirmed that their grocery services, which are currently available in the 6 states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana will now be available in the 12 states by the end of this year. Meesho is on the line to become a complete shopping destination for the entire Indian population by providing affordable essential items under one roof.

Meesho on Monday laid off its 150 employees after the downsizing of the grocery vertical that is Meesho Superstore, earlier known as Farmiso. The e-commerce firm recently rebranded Meesho Superstore and it has been done to drive the business with efficiency. However soon after this, the Bengaluru-based company took the decision of integrating the complete grocery verticle into the main application, thus laying off a huge number of employees.

Regarding this decision, one of the spokesperson said,

About 150 full-time employees will be impacted by the restructuring of Meesho Superstore which is aimed at bringing inefficiencies. The company is offering severance packages and outplacement assistance to help those impacted secure new opportunities outside the company.

A few more sources who have followed the case very closely said that around 400 employees have been laid off, but Meesho denied this completely and has confirmed that the number is only 150. The firm also said that they will also be helping the employees who have been asked to leave their jobs. In a blog post published on Monday, Meesho said,

To support those impacted by this restructuring, Meesho is offering severance packages and outplacement assistance to help them secure new opportunities outside the company. The redundancies do not impact any positions at the core Meesho marketplace business, where we continue to hire and grow talent.

Recently the company also confirmed that their grocery services which are currently available in the 6 states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana will now be available in the 12 states by the end of this year. Meesho is on the line to become a complete shopping destination for the entire Indian population by providing affordable essential items under one roof. The new superstore has around 500 employees and each one of them has been given a specific role, such as city-level managers, design experts, executives, etc. who will be working with the new interface very soon.

Also, after the announcement of the new grocery business, Meesho also confirmed that they want to provide their customers with an amazing shopping experience and will be integrating their application with excellent technology, good products, and talented staff. For the time being Meesho has introduced around 500 products in various categories, including packaged food, groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables, and home care, among others. This new feature will allow the complete Meesho family of around 100 million people to have access to over 87 million products across 36 categories.

Regarding this, the company also said,

As we continue to scale our efforts to make online grocery affordable for users across Tier 2+ markets, these changes will ensure we have the right framework in place to meet the growing needs of our customers.

However, these days Meesho is in avid competition with Amazon and Flipkart as the firm posted annual revenue of ₹792.8 crores in the fiscal year 2021, thus making a mark in the e-commerce business.
