In this article, we are going to see how to lock the vertical movement of a text canvas using FabricJS. The canvas means text written is movable, rotatable, resizable, and can be stretched according to requirement but we will lock the vertical movement so that it cannot be moved up or down. Further, the text itself cannot be edited like a textbox.
To make it possible we are going to use a JavaScript library called FabricJS. After importing the library using CDN, we will create a canvas block in the body tag which will contain our text. After this, we will initialize instances of Canvas and Text provided by FabricJS and use the lockMovementY property to lock the vertical movement and render the Canvas on the Text as given in the example below.

fabric.Text(text, lockMovementY: boolean);

Parameters: This function accept two parameters as mentioned above and described below:

  • text: It specifies the text to be written.
  • lockMovementX: It specifies whether to enable or disable the vertical movement lock, disabled by default.

Program: We can use FabricJS to lock the vertical movement of canvas-like text as given below.

<!DOCTYPE html>
        Lock vertical movement of a canvas-type text with JavaScript
    <!-- Loading the FabricJS library -->
    <script src=
        h1 {
            color: green;
        <b>lock vertical movement of a canvas-type text</b>
        <canvas id="canvas" width="600" height="200"
                style="border:1px solid #000000;">
            // Create a new instance of Canvas
            var canvas = new fabric.Canvas("canvas");
            // Create a new Text instance
            var text = new fabric.Text('GeeksforGeeks', {
                lockMovementY: true
            // Render the text on Canvas
