CharsetEncoder maxBytesPerChar() method in Java with Examples
  • Last Updated : 29 Mar, 2019

The maxBytesPerChar() method is a built-in method of the java.nio.charset.CharsetEncoder returns the maximum number of bytes that will be produced for each character of input. The value thus returned is used to get the size of the output buffer required for a given input sentence in its worst case.

Syntax:

public final float maxBytesPerChar()

Parameters: The function does not accepts any parameter.

Return Value: The function returns the maximum number of bytes that will be produced per character of input

Below is the implementation of the above function:

Program 1:

// Java program to implement
// the above function
import java.nio.CharBuffer;
import java.nio.charset.Charset;
import java.nio.charset.CharsetEncoder;

public class Main {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
    {
        // Gets the encoder
        CharsetEncoder encoder = Charset.forName("UTF8").newEncoder();

        // Prints max bytes per char
        System.out.println(encoder.maxBytesPerChar());
    }
}
Output:
3.0

Program 2:

// Java program to implement
// the above function
import java.nio.CharBuffer;
import java.nio.charset.Charset;
import java.nio.charset.CharsetEncoder;

public class Main {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
    {
        // Gets the encoder
        CharsetEncoder encoder = Charset.forName("US-ASCII").newEncoder();

        // Prints max bytes per char
        System.out.println(encoder.maxBytesPerChar());
    }
}
Output:
