Avatar: The Way of Water includes a great cast with both new and returning characters, making the Avatar series even bigger.

Avatar 2 follows Na’vi clan members Jake Sully and Neytiri as they protect their family from the returning Sky People (humans) on Pandora.

Most actors in the sequel used performance capture, so it might be hard to recognize who’s playing the new characters because of the special effects. Sam Worthington – Jake Sully

Australian actor Sam Worthington is reprising his role as Jake Sully in Avatar: The Way of Water. After the events of the first movie, Jake Sully is well-established in his Avatar form and serves as the leader of the Omatikaya Na’vi clan. Sully has become a father of four and acclimated to his dual roles as a leader and a dad since the last time viewers saw him.

Even so, Jake is still struggling with his human history, and soon enough Colonel Miles Quaritch, an old foe, reappears with a vengeance, compelling the Sully family to flee the jungle and take refuge with the water tribes of Pandora.

Zoe Saldana – Neytiri

Without Neytiri, his other half, who harnesses her warrior nature to become a strong and devoted mother to her children, Jake would be nothing. Neytiri is compelled to leave her clan and the jungle she grew up in early on in Avatar 2 in order to flee persecution by humans.

Star Zoe Saldana, who is returning to the role of Neytiri in the Avatar sequel, will be seen in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will continue her love of extraterrestrial creatures.

Kate Winslet – Ronal

Cliff Curtis – Tonowari

Actor Cliff Curtis from New Zealand plays Tonowari, one of the new characters in Avatar 2. Tonowari, who is the Olo’eyktan (chief) of the Metkayina tribe, is on a par with Jake Sully. He is Ronal’s partner in Winslet’s role, and together they have two kids, Ao’nung and Tsireya.

Tonowari is the one who offers the Sully family asylum when they arrive at the Pandoran seas, but when the humans attack his home, he has to bear the consequences of his choice.

Stephen Lang – Colonel Miles Quaritch

Stephen Lang, a member of the cast of Avatar 2 who seemed to have left the film as Colonel Miles Quaritch, makes an unexpected comeback. In Avatar, Quaritch, who had previously served as the RDA’s head of security on Pandora, was slain in combat with Jake and Neytiri.

The Way of Water swiftly reveals that Quaritch’s memories were uploaded before his passing and that a new Avatar host body was made so he could carry out his goal. The goal of the sequel stays the same: to get rid of Jake Sully. But in the process, Quaritch reconnects with Spider, his long-lost human son, with whom he finally grows close.

CCH Pounder – Mo’at

Actress CCH Pounder, winner of an Emmy, briefly rejoins the Avatar series as Mo’at, Neytiri’s mother. CCH Pounder, who is most recognized for her work on The X-Files and ER, plays a minor part in Avatar: The Way of Water.

With a mental bond with Eywa, Mo’at is the Omatikaya clan’s spiritual head. The former clan leader and her husband, Eytukan, was slain in the first Avatar film. In Avatar 3, CCH Pounder is confirmed to make a comeback as Mo’at.

Edie Falco – General Frances Ardmore

Edie Falco, who is most recognized for playing Carmela Soprano on The Sopranos, lands a small part in the cast of Avatar 2. Falco plays General Frances Ardmore, the leader tasked with seeing that the RDA achieves its new main objective, which is to secure Pandora so that it can continue to support humankind as a new home.

Colonel Quaritch is enlisted by Ardmore to eliminate Jake Sully, who has inspired the Na’vi to rebel against RDA forces and disrupt their supply lines.

Sigourney Weaver – Kiri

Another returning cast member from the first Avatar film is Sigourney Weaver, who plays an unexpected new role in the follow-up. Weaver played Dr. Grace Augustine in a previous role. She was a scientist who oversaw the Avatar program on Pandora and developed ties with the Na’vi people.

Weaver makes a comeback as Kiri, the 14-year-old biological daughter of Grace’s Avatar body, following Grace’s death in the first film. Because of the bond between Jake and Grace, Kiri is adopted into the Sully family. Throughout the film, Kiri battles with being the outsider and looks for more information about her biological mother. After swimming with the Metkayina clan and connecting to their underwater Spirit Tree, she can obtain some information, but it causes her to experience a terrible seizure.

Jamie Flatters – Neteyam

Jamie Flatters, who starred in The School for Good and Evil, portrays Neteyam, the eldest biological son of Jake and Neytiri. Being the older brother puts pressure on Neteyam all the time, and his father insists that he watch out for his siblings. After being fatally shot during a fight with the RDA while attempting to save his family, Neteyam ultimately carries this directive to his grave.

Britain Dalton – Lo’ak

Lo’ak, portrayed by Britain Dalton, is the second brother of the Sully family and one of the main protagonists in Avatar 2. There is tension between father and son since Lo’ak is perceived as the family troublemaker and has inherited Jake’s carelessness.

Lo’ak makes some of the closest connections with the Metkayina clan in Avatar: The Way of Water, developing a deep friendship with Tsireya in the process. He also makes a connection with Payakan, the rejected Tulkun whale.

Trinity Jo-Li Bliss – Tuktirey/Tuk

Trinity Bliss, a cast member of Avatar 2, plays Tuktirey, also known as Tuk, the youngest of the Sully siblings. In the follow-up, Tuk’s sibling Kiri serves as both a buddy and mentor, and they are the ones closest. Tuk is too young to go on her family’s riskier missions at just seven years old, but even so, she finds herself in the thick of things.

Jack Champion – Spider

Although Jack Champion’s brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame may have made him well-known to viewers, the actor has a more significant role in Avatar 2. The sole human child in the Sully family is Miles Socorro, also known as Spider. Spider, the late Colonel Quaritch’s son, tries hard to blend in with his Na’vi siblings, but their mother Neytiri isn’t sure she’ll let him.

In Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider is kidnapped by Quaritch, his biological father, and utilized as a means of locating the Sully family. After a difficult start to their relationship, Spider decides to save Quaritch rather than let him drown, which creates an intriguing new dynamic for Avatar 3.

Bailey Bass – Tsireya

Bailey Bass, a youthful addition to the Avatar 2 cast, portrays Tsireya, also known as Reya, who is the daughter of clan elders Ronal and Tonowari. Reya is a free diver and obedient Metkayina tribe daughter, but when she grows close to Jake and Neytiri’s son, Lo’ak, her allegiances are put to the test.

Filip Geljo – Ao’nung

The actor behind Ao’nung, the second child of Ronal and Tonowari, is Canadian celebrity Filip Geljo. Most people probably associate Ao’nung from Avatar 2 since she is one of the teenagers that bullies Kiri, which leads to a brawl between Lo’ak and Neteyam. He eventually warms up to the Sully kids and offers to assist Lo’ak in getting his captured Tulkun back.

Duane Evans Jr – Rotxo

Rotxo, a supporting character in Avatar 2, is played by Duane Evans Jr. It is well known that Rotxo is Ao’nung’s close friend and that he fights with the Sully siblings. Similar to his friend, he strikes up a conversation with the Na’vi guests of the Metkayina and learns to free dive with them.

Brendan Cowell – Mick Scoresby

In The Way of Water, Brendan Cowell made his Avatar debut as side villain Mick Scoresby, who oversaw the RDA’s tulku hunting operations. In addition, the adventurer pilots the SeaDragon, a massive marine hunting vehicle.

Since the Metkayina clan has a tight relationship with the tulkuns, Scoresby effectively makes Jake the number one adversary of the clan in the sequel by assisting Quaritch on a tulkun hunt to get Jake to give up hunting.

Jemaine Clement – Ian Garvin

Dr. Ian Garvin, an RDA field researcher researching Pandora’s xenomarine biology, is portrayed by Jemaine Clement in Avatar: The Way of Water. Because of his extensive understanding of Pandora’s waters, Garvin advises Mick Scoresby on tulkun hunting.

The RDA has threatened to close Garvin’s laboratory if he doesn’t join Scoresby’s oceanic quest, thus Garvin is forced to take part in the tulku hunting.

Joel David Moore – Norm Spellman

Joel David Moore makes a cameo in Avatar: The Way of Water, however his role is quite small. Joel David Moore plays Norm Spellman again. After the Resources Development Administration (RDA) unexpectedly returned to Pandora, Norm and colleague scientist Max Patel relocated to the Hallelujah Mountains to live with the Omatikaya Clan.

Dileep Rao – Max Patel

In Avatar: The Way of Water, Dileep Rao plays Dr. Max Patel once more, this time as one of the last human scientists on Pandora. In the Avatar sequel, Max makes a fleeting appearance alongside Norm to visit Kiri following her seizure brought on by the Spirit Tree of the Metkayina.

Matt Gerald – Lyle Wainfleet

Colonel Stephen Quaritch and Matt Gerald’s Lyle Wainfleet were restored as Recombinants as part of Project Phoenix after Lyle Wainfleet’s human body perished during the attack on the Tree of Souls in the first movie.

Wainfleet may have been the one to kill Jake and Neytiri’s son because he was one of the two Recombinants that fired shots at Neteyam during the pivotal battle. Wainfleet is shown to be the only member of Quaritch’s team to survive at the end of the movie, raising the possibility that she will play a larger part in Avatar 3.
