Who discovered Pi?

Archimedes of Greece (287–212 BC) is credited with the first calculation of pi.

Archimedes of Syracuse (287-212 BC), one of the renowned mathematicians of history, calculated π for the first time.

Archimedes calculated pi by drawing polygons within and around a circle. He discovered that pi lies between 223/71 and 22/7, which is around 3.1418.

Pi is also known as Archimedes’ constant. William Jones, a British mathematician, developed the Greek sign π in 1706.

Archimedes understood that the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter was pi. He discovered that by drawing a polygon inside the circle, he could estimate pi. The more sides the polygon had, the closer his approximation of pi became.
