The fee structure in IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) can vary slightly from one IIT to another, but generally, they follow a similar structure. As of my last update in April 2023, here’s a rough idea of what you can expect:

  • Tuition Fees:
    • For undergraduate courses like B.Tech, the tuition fee is typically around INR 1 to 2.5 lakhs per annum. This can vary based on the specific IIT and the program.
  • Other Fees:
    • Apart from tuition fees, there are additional charges like hostel fees, mess charges, library fees, and other miscellaneous expenses. These can add around INR 20,000 to 50,000 per semester.
  • Total Annual Cost:
    • When you add up tuition and other expenses, the total cost per year can be roughly between INR 2 to 3 lakhs.
  • Fee Waivers and Scholarships:
    • There are fee waivers for students from economically weaker sections, SC/ST categories, and physically disabled students. For example, students whose family income is below a certain threshold may be eligible for a full or partial tuition fee waiver.
    • Additionally, there are various scholarships and financial assistance programs available for students who need them.
