The Heavenly Kid is a 1985 American romantic comedy daydream film directed by Cary Medoway and featuring Lewis Smith, Jason Gedrick, Jane Kaczmarek, and Richard Mulligan. In the film, Lewis Smith plays Bobby Fantana, a bold and dapper greaser who dies in a drag racing accident and wakes up in a limbo world. Bobby eventually needs to return to Earth and act as a guardian angel, as advised by a guide named Rafferty (Richard Mulligan). Lenny Barnes (Jason Gedrick), Bobby’s assigned adolescent, is a smart but geeky young man who lacks self-confidence and is too nervous to ask out his ideal lady. The two become close as Bobby teaches Lenny how to be cool and assured. 

The movie got an IMDb rating of 6.3. while the movie has a 30% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 10 reviews. The movie made over $382 million at the USA and Canada box office and the movie won the Best Family Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical in the Young Artist Award. 1. Lewis Smith as Bobby Fontana

In the movie, Lewis Smith played the character of Bobby Fontana, who is a young greaser-type rebel who challenges Joe Barnes to a game of chicken for making a pass at his girlfriend Emily. However, the movie proceeds that how he dies and returns to Earth to serve as a guardian angel to Lenny. Lewis Smith is most known for playing Charles Main in the first and second episodes of the miniseries North and South. The Actors Academy, which trains students to work in cinema and television, was created by Lewis Smith in Los Angeles. Lewis Smith’s Actor’s Academy offers classes on subjects including camera skills, sound and lighting, props and markings, and applying for parts.

2. Jason Gedrick as Lenny Barnes

In the movie, Jason Gedrick played the character of Lenny Barnes, a bright high school student who endures continual bullying at school, especially from bullies Fred Gallo and Bill McIntyre. He is the movie’s primary character. As an actor, and filmmaker Jason is best known for the films Luck (2011), Bosch (2014), and Dexter (2006).

3. Jane Kaczmarek as Emily

Emily, who is played by Jane Kaczmarek was the girlfriend of Bobby Fontana. She later marries Joe and gives birth to Lenny Barnes. Jane is an amazing actress who is famous for the character of Lois, Malcolm’s mother, in the Fox television comedy Malcolm in the Middle (2000–2006), and has garnered three nominations for the Golden Globe and seven nominations for the Primetime Emmy.

4. Richard Mulligan as Rafferty

Rafferty, who is played by Richard Mulligan is a heavenly mentor to Bobby who gives him the assignment to be a guardian angel to Lenny. American character actor Richard Mulligan is most known for his work in the comedies Empty Nest and Soap (1977–1981). Mulligan received one Golden Globe Award (1989) and two Emmy Awards (1980 and 1989). 

5. Mark Metcalf as Joe Barnes

Mark Metcalf played the role of Joe Barnes, who is the father of Lenny and the husband of Emily. Mark Metcalf is most remembered for playing the cruel ROTC commander Douglas C. Neidermeyer in the 1978 comedy Animal House. He later imitated the role in the 1984 music videos for the Twisted Sister songs “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.”
