Deloitte Interview Experience: Results of aptitude came in the last week of August after a 5 days gap interview was scheduled. So, a gap of around 1 week was there between the aptitude test and the interview.

Interview: I was asked following questions:

  • The interviewer introduced herself and asked about me/ intro.….
  • A few things related to internships (cross question from my intro.).. and after that she looked into my resume and asked are you into coding?
  • She said, Since this role requires some coding, I’ll ask you a few questions.
  • Suppose there is a room in the office and X people enter room throughout the day, Y people leave throughout the day [ continuously people are entering the room, some are staying there, and rest are going out] .. so tell me the code to calculate how many people are there in that room at the EOD..?
  • Next question was a simple one, how to find the minimum number from a given set of numbers….?
  • And apart from this other questions were the usual Interview questions related to CPP. This can be practised from various sources on Web, the best being GFG tutorials and CPP Interview videos by Geeks for Geeks during the last moments.
  • After this she asked me things like why deloitte and this role… though you have a chemical engineering background….
  • How will you cope up with the work that requires coding…. Basically how you’ll compete with CS guys, who have studied this for 4 years and have a good grip…

After this out of nowhere she said i’m also a chemical engineer….. She told a few things and explained how she switched her career from core to IT sector…. And made me believe [convinced] how one easily can do this work by putting efforts…. And gave her father’s example of how despite being 50+ he is still updating himself with the IT stuff….

After this she said your interview is over if you have any questions to ask..? I asked one. Interview Over

Verdict: Not Selected

My Thoughts: During the interview process I understood they are looking for people who have decent coding skills and who have decent skills, have projects and even if I had mentioned and practised a few things related to programming…. Result would have been different…. [ I knew this but I wanted to experience the interview pressure … as my aim was core companies]

How did I understand that….. ?

During the interview she started explaining how chemical engineering is a great field and seeing my resume she said you will easily get good opportunities since you have good grades, experience and overall everything is good…..

But this conversation that we had in the last 10 min. Where she was sharing her personal stuff and motivated that despite being from a core background I can do good in IT…. Out of nowhere Made me feel, am I going to get selected !!?

My overall interview went really well in terms of everything that you can name…. The only thing was that 1st coding question that I straightway said NO. And people who got selected… had coding profiles, had projects and knowledge of programming.

I also understood this- HR interviewing us makes you feel really comfortable and they try to interact with you, encourage you to answer. And someone going for the first time, might feel at the end of the interview. I might get selected, but this is the way they are supposed to carry out Interview.

Focus on CPP, DSA (at least basic for advantage in Interview), good project is important, some other tools and softwares like SQL, Excel, etc. Decent communication skills are important.

Best wishes.
