I’ll take you through the remarkable journey of my internship with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the IPL 2023 champions. As a student of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay, my passion for web development opened the door to an incredible opportunity to collaborate with CSK on two groundbreaking projects. Through the fusion of Angular and Django, I had the privilege of creating a captivating 3D environment of Chepauk Stadium and developing a dynamic quiz system, redefining fan engagement in the digital realm. Let’s delve into the intriguing backstory of how it all began.
My journey with CSK started with a humble beginning rooted in my involvement with Mood Indigo, the cultural fest of IIT Bombay, known as Asia’s largest college cultural festival. As the technical head of the festival, I had the opportunity to make the festival’s official website, which featured an innovative 3D design using three.js. Little did I know that this uncommon approach would catch the attention of CSK, who approached me after discovering the Mood Indigo website.
Impressed by the unique 3D design and the reach of Mood Indigo as a student organization, CSK expressed their interest in partnering with us for a 3D website project. Thrilled by the opportunity to work with a prestigious IPL team, I assembled a team comprising myself as the sole developer and three talented designers. After two months of detailed planning and finalizing the project’s intricacies, we received the offer letters, marking the beginning of our collaboration with CSK.
Our collaboration with CSK commenced with several online meetings involving the CSK design and technical teams, as well as their media and branding team. These interactions allowed us to gain a comprehensive understanding of CSK’s vision and requirements for their digital presence. To further immerse ourselves in the CSK experience, we embarked on a two-day visit to Chennai, where we were given an exclusive tour of the renowned Chepauk Stadium. Walking on the hallowed ground, witnessing players warming up, and comprehending the stadium’s structure and ambience provided invaluable insights for modelling it in the website.
Throughout the project, our team worked tirelessly, often pulling late nights to ensure timely delivery of the 3D environment and the quiz system. The collaboration with the CSK team was marked by their support and special treatment, fuelling our motivation and dedication. The experience of working closely with professionals from CSK, receiving their guidance and feedback, was truly invaluable.
After 45 days of intense collaboration, we successfully completed the project, delivering a captivating 3D environment of Chepauk Stadium and an engaging quiz system. The cherry on top was witnessing CSK’s triumphant victory in the IPL 2023. It was a moment of immense pride and satisfaction, knowing that our work had contributed to their success.
