Position: Programmer Analyst Trainee
HCL conducted an on-campus drive which had a total of 2 rounds.
Round 1(JAM Session): 20 members were called and were given a topic and we have to speak about the topic for a minute. You will be given a minute prior to starting the session so that you can think of what to speak. It will not be in order, you have voluntarily raise your hand and speak about it like how we do it in GD.
Tip:
- If you have good idea about the topic and are confident of what you will be speaking about, it will be an added advantage if you start first.
- But at the same time it can get worse if you raise your hand first and don’t speak well and relevant to the topic given.
- If you have no idea about the topic, wait for 4-5 members to speak. From that, try understanding what that topic is about and you can go ahead.
- The topic that was given to us is: “If you get a chance to share your college life experience on your college notice board what it would be and why”. It need not be just the notice board, can be anywhere but should specify why you choose that place as well. Few members have told it would be in cultural hall, seminar hall etc. If possible end it with a quote relevant to the topic.
Few other JAM topics that were asked:
- If you are given a plain wall, what would you do with it.
- What will you do if you wake up tomorrow to find that your gender has changed overnight?
- About Globalization
Out of 20 members from every batch, 5-6 members were being selected for the interview round.
Round 2(HR+Technical interview):
- Basically everything will be asked from your resume. For example, if you have used a DB in your project: why did you select it, its advantages etc. And next few behavioral questions were asked (From the introduction that you say).
- Cracking interview is easy. All that is important is being confident in the 1st round.
