How to install Tiled Map Editor on Ubuntu

The Tiled Map is a free and open-source level editor that runs on a variety of platforms. It allowed us to alter tile maps in orthogonal, isometric, and hexagonal projections. We can make numerous layers and tiles of any size using it. Tiled Map Editor 1.8.5 is the most recent version at the time of writing this article. Snap may be used to install the Tiled Map editor on Ubuntu. It is also available in the form of an AppImage file for Linux. We’ll go through how to install Tiled Map on an Ubuntu PC in this article. 

Installation of Tiled Map Editor on Ubuntu

The Tiled Map Editor application can be installed using 2 different methods:



Let’s go through both the installation methods one by one.

Method 1: Installing Tiled Map Editor using Snap

Step 1: Install the Tiled Map Editor using snap manager. Execute the below command to install the application.



sudo snap install tiled

 

Step 2: To verify whether the application is installed or not. Just run the below command which will give the information of the Tiled Map Editor application.

snap info tiledthe 

 

Step 3: Search for the Tiled application in Activities Panel. Click on the icon to launch the application.

 

Step 4: Our application is been successfully installed and opened via the snap manager.

 

Method 2: Installing Tiled Map Editor using AppImage

Step 1: Go to the official website of Tiled Map Editor from which we can download the AppImage file.

Step 2: Click on the option “TIled for Linux”.

 

Step 3: After clicking a popup will be seen on the screen. Click on the Save File option to store the file in the local directory for further installation.

 

Step 4: Navigate to the Downloads directory where the AppImage file is been stored.

cd Downloads/

 

Step 5: Change the permission of the AppImage file by using the below command.

sudo chmod a+x Tiled-1.8.5-x86_64.AppImage

 

Step 6: Run the below command to launch the application from the terminal itself.

./Tiled-1.8.5-x86_64.AppImage

 

Step 7: We can see that the application is completely installed on the Ubuntu system through the AppImage file.
