How to Generate TPIN in Groww?

Gone are the days of POA (Power of Attorney) for selling shares on Groww. With an increased focus on security and transparency, CDSL (Central Depository Services Limited) has introduced a new system: TPIN verification. This article will guide you through generating a TPIN on Groww, allowing you to sell your shares seamlessly.

What is TPIN?

TPIN stands for Transaction Personal Identification Number. It’s a six-digit PIN sent directly to your registered email address and mobile number by CDSL, not Groww. This PIN acts as an authorization key, verifying your holdings before you can sell shares on the Groww platform.

Why Generate TPIN?

TPIN verification enhances security by ensuring you, the investor, explicitly authorize the sale of your shares. This added layer of protection prevents unauthorized transactions and brings more transparency to the process.

How to Generate TPIN on Groww?

There are two ways to generate a TPIN on Groww:

Method 1: Through Groww App/Web Platform

  1. Verification Prompt: While placing a sell order, you’ll encounter a prompt asking you to “Verify Sell.” Click on it.
  2. Verify Using TPIN & OTP: You’ll be presented with an option to “Verify Using TPIN & OTP.” If you haven’t received a TPIN or lost it, click on “Request New Pin” at the bottom of the screen.
  3. TPIN via Email/SMS: CDSL will send a new TPIN to your registered email and mobile number.

Method 2: Through CDSL Website (For All Users)

  1. Visit CDSL Website: Go to https://edis.cdslindia.com/Home/GeneratePin
  2. Enter Details: Enter your Beneficiary Owner Identification Number (BOID), which is your 16-digit Demat account number, and your PAN number.
  3. Receive TPIN: Click on “Next” and enter the OTP received on your phone. This will allow you to set a new TPIN.
