African Currencies: An Introduction
- Africa has 54 sovereign states, the most of any continent.
- Egypt is the most popular tourist destination in Africa, attracting around 10 million visitors annually. While Egypt is best known for its pyramids, the Republic of Sudan has 223 of its pyramids, twice as many as Egypt.

Between the 7th and 20th centuries, the Arab slave trade (also known as slavery in the East) captured and exported 18 million slaves from Africa.
- The ancient Greeks and Romans originally used the term “Africa” only for the northern region of the continent. The word Africa means “sunny” in Latin and the word phrase means “without cold” in Greek.”
