I got a referral for the Lead Data Engineer position at Wells Fargo through a former colleague who currently works at the company. The referral helped fast-track my application process, and I received an email from the HR team to schedule on-site interviews.
Technical Interview:
There were 2 interviewers on the panel. I felt they were not interested in taking the interview. It was vague and they asked very general questions which are too basic for senior-level data engineers.
Questions:
- Elaborate your experience with Python in data analytics.
- How do you ensure data quality and governance in your data engineering processes?
- Give an example of your database design skills.
- Explain the steps you follow during ETL design and implementation.
- How to handle complex data scattered across various data sources during data integration?
- Do you have experience with Power BI and SSRS? Elaborate.
- How have you provided leadership and insights in your previous analytical projects?
HR Interview:

- How do you handle challenging situations and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment?
- Rate your communication skills on a level of 1-10.
- What do you do to stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in data engineering and analytics?
- How do you see yourself contributing to the company’s goals?
