In the year 2022, I decided to take admission to the Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal. I pursued a B. Tech degree in Information Technology stream as an undergraduate student. Till now, I have completed 3 semesters of my Bachelor’s degree and am currently in 4th semester. I have seen the campus of the college, and sometimes I feel how beautiful it is.
About the Campus
Oriental College of Technology (OCT) Bhopal has a campus of approximately 20 acres. The college consists of a vast, lush green campus with trees and plants throughout. The campus is divided into various departments, such as the Computer Science Department, the Department of Information Technology, and more. Additionally, there’s an MBA college within the campus, known as Oriental College of Management. The campus has a large sports ground and various facilities for different sports, such as badminton courts, basketball courts, and a cricket ground. Also, the College has a large Auditorium with a seating capacity of almost 1000 students. The college has a library with a large capacity for readers and a canteen with various types of meals. The campus will also have a fully furnished and AC-equipped lab. The campus has hostel facilities for the students from outside the Bhopal. One of the hostels is nearby the canteen and the other one is near the Auditorium. Although, labs were conducted regularly in the college to develop practical knowledge.
First-year Experience
The first year is all about making new friends and building a community. I am very excited about my first day in college. The first year of college is a lot of new experiences, challenges, and growth. As I also have a lot of excitement and nerves about making new friends in college. I used to be fear of such a huge campus and a lot of new people around me. Almost all the subjects of my curriculum were new to me and I also got shy to take help from another person, but weeks later I became comfortable talking with classmates and seniors. Also, my department in the college is awesome. I will easily share all my tasks and problems with my teachers. Since, my school days I have been very fond of coding, and also college will be organizing various workshops on Python Web Development, etc. I am attending all the workshops, As a result, I have a deep interest in Data Structures which would be helpful for me to develop my programming skills. Overall, the first year of my college is full of finding new friends, discovering my interests, and strength my personality. I have maintained a CGPA of above 7 in my first year.
Second-year Experience
Till the Second Year of my college, I got familiar with all the teachers and classmates. I don’t hesitate to talk with my seniors. And also curriculum subjects will be got easily understandable. All the coding subjects including DBMS, Computer Architecture and Data Structures will be look easy as I got familiar to them. The coursework demanded more time and effort, leading to long hours in the library and late-night study sessions with classmates. In the 3rd Semester I got above 7 SGPA marks, this will be really helpful for me to maintained my CGPA in the upcoming Semester examinations. My Second Year journey will be played a vital role for my upcoming years of my studies.
Cultural Fests and Hackathons
Every Year Oriental College of Technology organizes an Event called ‘ TechFest’. TechFest is an event of vibrant celebration of talent and different types of cultural activities in the campus. Cultural Fest organizes events like drama, fashion show, debate parliament, fiesta night and many more activities. Students from different departments come together to organize and participate in a range of activities, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. The fest is a chance for students to display their talents, build camaraderie, and experience the excitement of college life.
Along with TechFest, Annual Hackathon will also be organized for the students to showcase their programming skills.
Conclusion
Currently, I am in 4th Semester of my studies but these two years of my college experience is full of learning, excitement, and adaptation in new environment. Although the academic challenges have pushed me to new heights of ups and downs. As I move into my third year, I’m filled with excitement and determination to make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.
