My journey from a NEET aspirant to a student at NIT

Hi, I’m Diganta Dutta currently pursuing my B. Tech in Computer Science and Technology from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, SHIBPUR (IIEST Shibpur). I’m going to share one of my biggest challenges and achievements of cracking the JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (JEE) Mains in 2022. In this article, I will share my experience of preparing and appearing for this competitive exam.

My story began in class 11. Getting into class 11 with very high grades is not a big deal for students. In my case, it was 92% and hence, at that time it was not difficult for anyone in our Science department (all students above 90%) to crack any of the competitive exams in India. My parents dreamt of their son becoming a doctor and, therefore started preparing for NEET. Class 11 went, taking tuition. Class 12, there was lockdown. I realized that there was a huge backlog, which I needed to clear. Started, clearing my class 12, with class 11’s backlogs. Here, I started working hard. But as expected results, I got only 400 marks in NEET 2021.

That year I also sat for the JEE MAINS, with NEET level preparation, and got around 90 percentile. My father, got me admitted to a semi-govt. college RCCIIT, in our state, West Bengal. I found there were many negative points in me and numerous loopholes in my preparation. Thought to give it a last try, and give whatever I contained, my best that I could have offered. Took a NEET Dropper’s batch from Physics Wallah for around 4000/- rupees. The first few months of college classes were online, but then they became offline. I went to RCCIIT college, attended tests, and their practical exams, but never complained about getting less time in preparation, being a Partial Dropper.

I took the NEET 2022 Exam, and guess what, I FAILED. It was near, my score was 530, and being a General Category student it was around 30-40 marks less. A thing happened before my NEET results. I also gave the JEE MAINS 2022 EXAM, with this NEET preparation. On my JEE second attempt(August attempt), the percentile was 99.1130508 percentile with a CRL( AIR ) of 8105. My score was 197 out of 300. I, had not expected this gift. I got NIT in return for the hard work I put in.

I got admitted to IIEST SHIBPUR,(NIRF 35), which comes under the list of NIT, in the Computer Science and Technology department. The college is beautiful, and the lush greenery of the campus, adds a huge amount of oxygen to the air.
