How Does the Central Node in a Star Topology Handle Traffic Congestion?

Answer: The central node in a star topology handles traffic congestion as in star topology all the systems are connected with central switch/ server hence the unicast data transmission is used that reduce the network congestion and enhances the performance of the network.

As we know that each system in star topology is connected to a central switch using cables. So, there is a cable present for each system from the central switch/server. So, the type of data transmission is unicast that decreases the traffic congestion and hence, increasing the performance of the entire network. The data from the central server is unicasted through the dedicated link present to reach the desired destination hence, reducing the traffic congestion in the network.

The below diagram represents the star topology in which all the computers are connected with the central server/switch.

Conclusion

From the above discussion we can conclude that the star topology follows unicast communication hence reducing the traffic congestion at the central node. In the star topology each system is connected to central server using a dedicated link. So, the data can be sent or received without any congestion in the central server. In this way the central node in a star topology handle traffic congestion.
