GDSC Interview Experience

As a College student, everyone likes to join some of the clubs in college and make meaningful memories…There might be singing, dancing, drama, coding, hardware, technical, graphics, adventurous, photography, and literacy-like clubs in College.

When it comes to techies, we will be looking for a technical club that can give us the experience of teamwork, teaching others, upskilling our skills, make meaningful contributions to society by solving real-world problems. I applied to Google Developer Student Clubs JSSSTU, having the same thoughts.

Hiring Process:

After registration as usual like other registration processes, I applied for a technical role in GDSC(Google Developer Student Clubs JSSSTU), Firstly the online technical test was conducted on the Hackerrank platform on 28/8/2023.

They mentioned having a laptop and a webcam is essential for taking the test. The test cannot be taken on a mobile phone. The practice test link was also shared in a registration confirmation email to make us aware of the platform interface. We got 60 minutes for 100+ questions among them there were 2 coding questions at last, and most of them were MCQs and a few short answer type questions. No negative marking.

Mcq and short answer type questions are from each domain like webdev, ui ux, blockchain, cybersecurity, dbms, cloud computing, AI, ml others. I attempted most of the MCQs and a few short answer-type questions. As I spent most time doing so, I wasn’t able to attend 2 coding questions which were at last.

Tip: I think coding questions can be given more importance in many of our tests, rather than mcqs.

But GDSC not considered me based on this thing it seems, because I cleared this test and got a further step email. i.e. Technical Interview.

It was my second interview of after selecting as a web developer of the VentureX club of sjce.Interview held on 5 September,2023. That was a virtual interview held at Google Meet. It is required to turn on our camera during the interview and ensure that have a stable internet connection. I joined 10 minutes early to meet, Noboby in meet for sometime still I joined and waited for my interview, One guest person joined first and told me to talk casually, I told Okay and wished them. Then they only started asking me about my native, languages I can communicate with, and hobbies.

And I remember he asked me about one question related to countries,

Like in some fields (Not remember the exact thing that they asked), what are the top 5 Nations, and do u think India is one Among them?

-Actually, I did not have any idea about it and I informed him as it is but he wanted me to attempt, So I took a chance and told him, Yeah, might India be one among them.

But he just said No and told me don’t worry It is not an Interview question 🙂 Just he is speaking friendly, and the real interview will start as the other person joins. Later the students who are GDSC core members already and the lead, a total of three people joined meet again to conduct the interview and introduced themselves to me.

Questions and My Answers:

Introduce Yourself: I introduced myself briefly, by telling my name, the college I’m studying in, course opted, current learning, my interests and hobbies.

Tip: Keep your introduction short and precise, no need of a story.

Considering I applied for a technical role in the club, in order to test my DSA skills, they asked me:

About Array, we need to insert in the middle and search element(not remember the exact question. I first explained the brute force approach like counting elements and dividing them by 2 and doing a linear search, and later explained a better solution like using binary search. While explaining I clarified questions like whether the array is sorted, or unique, they helped me while explaining and agreed.

Tip: Don’t dive into the best solution directly even if u know, start to explain to them how normal people think, then to the optimal solution, give real-world examples if you know.

The next person considering my Resume, started asking about my projects and how I learned them.

JavaScript-related questions, var let difference and some other basic questions.

About flexbox and grid layouts.

How do you align items or contents to the center using Flexbox? tell CSS code.

Tip: Make sure you know everything that you all included in your Resume, don’t keep projects that you are not aware of, just by copying others, this will not work out.

The interview lasted for around 1 hour, and lastly, they asked me whether I had questions to ask them? and

I got mail for the HR Interview held on 8 September 2023. As usual, I joined Google Meet early, but this time after the time they mentioned also exceeded I was still alone in the meet 🙂 after some time thank god, some people joined the meeting, 1 Guest and 2 were GDSC members, the meeting started with greetings and an introduction of each of us.

As this was an HR round the question was like the following:

Why do you want to join GDSC? What are the goals and impact you will create after joining?

Will you be able to work in a team? Tell me about any team or event you lead as a leader.

Imagine if there are two different opinions in the team discussions, whom will you cooperate or how will you handle this scenario?

Will you feel sad if you aren’t selected for GDSC even though coming to this last round?

Imagine if there is a conflict between two of your friends in a meeting, how will you resolve this issue without further disputes?

Imagine you want to make a team and do some events or projects, how will you choose your team members how do u encourage and on what basis will you distribute work to each one?

In some event your club hosted, and other learners asked you some questions that you don’t know, what will you do? how you will be able to solve doubts?

Do you know about Women in tech? What steps will you take to encourage women and how will you make publicity and join as many as women for your session?

How do you see yourself as the next GDSC member?

Do you encounter any problems (in society), and how you are trying to resolve them or bring solutions for them?

Do you have any questions to ask us?

In this way, I was asked questions in an HR interview. Lastly, I would say that it was a great experience as a first-year student, and encourage you all to definitely participate in such opportunities and make a lifetime memory.

Thank You One And All for going through my journey 🙂
