Difference between Fedora and CentOS

Fedora is an open-source Linux-based operating system developed and maintained by the community-sponsored and supported by Fedora Project. It was established in 2003 and initially, it was famous as Fedora core; later it was renamed Fedora from Fedora core. It is developed mainly for the developers and the system administrators. It is available free of cost. 

It contains around 20000 packages to make it efficient, secure, and user-friendly. It is one of the stable and most popular Linux kernel-based operating systems. It has an active worldwide community, which regularly works on its improvement. A new update becomes available every 3-4 months.

CentOS is an open-source Linux-based distributed operating system. It mainly focuses on the stability and robustness of the system. It contains similar features as Red Hat, as it is delivered from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and developed by the CentOS community. It was introduced in 2004. It uses the Yum package manager as the default package manager. 

The CentOS community is very active and contains Linux enthusiasts from around the world that includes network administrators, managers, system administrators, and core Linux contributors.

Difference between Fedora and CentOS:

It is more suited for workstation applications and non-production servers. It is used when you need a more stable system that requires the RHEL’s feature set.
Fedora is free and open-source with some proprietary features. CentOS is a community of open source contributes and users.
It was licensed under GPL and various free software licenses. It was licensed under GPL.
It lacks on the terms of long support. It has advanced features in security and has long term support.
It is lacking in popularity in comparison with CentOS. It is quite popular in the market.
