What is Difference between Whole Number and Integer?

Whole numbers and integers are both types of numbers in mathematics, but they differ in terms of their inclusion of negative values.

Whole numbers include all the natural numbers (positive counting numbers) from 1, 2, 3, … and so on, extending to infinity. They do not include zero or any negative numbers.

Integers, on the other hand, include all positive whole numbers (1, 2, 3, …), zero (0), and all negative whole numbers (… -3, -2, -1). They also extend infinitely in both the positive and negative directions.

In summary, while both whole numbers and integers encompass positive values, integers uniquely include zero and extend to include all negative values as well. This distinction is essential in mathematics and various real-world applications where both positive and negative quantities are encountered.
