What is BO ID in Zerodha?

Investing in the stock market often involves opening a demat account to hold your shares electronically. Zerodha, a popular Indian brokerage firm, uses the Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) as the depository for its clients’ demat accounts. When you open a demat account with Zerodha, you’ll receive a unique identification number called a BO ID.

What is a BO ID?

BO ID stands for Beneficiary Owner Identification Number. It’s an 8-digit number assigned by CDSL to uniquely identify your demat account held through Zerodha. This number acts like your account number within the depository system.



Structure of Your Demat Account ID

While the BO ID itself is 8 digits, your overall demat account ID might be 16 digits. This 16-digit number is a combination of your DP ID and BO ID.

Important Note: If you opened your Zerodha demat account before September 15th, 2015, your account might be held with IL&FS (another depository participant) instead of CDSL. In that case, your DP ID will be different (IN300095).
