Temperature Conversion Formula

Temperature conversion formulas are the formulas that are used to convert various types of units of temperature to one another.

Fahrenheit to Celsius

Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion is achieved by the formula,

(°F – 32) × 5/9 = °C

Celsius to Fahrenheit

Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion is achieved by the formula,

(°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F

Celsius to Kelvin

Celsius to Kelvin conversion is achieved by the formula,

K = °C + 273

100 °C 212.0 °F 373.15 K

Example on Temperature Conversion

Example 1: Convert 20 °C to K

Solution:

We know that,

  • K = °C + 273

20 °C = 20 + 273 K = 293 K

Example 2: Convert -32°C to °F

Solution:

We know that,

  • (°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F

°F = (-32 × 9/5) + 32 = -25.6 °F

Example 3: Convert 100 °C to K

Solution:

We know that,

  • K = °C + 273

100 °C = 100 + 273 K = 373 K

Example 4: At what temperature Celsius scale is equal to the Fahrenheit scale?

Solution:

We know that,

  • (°C × 9/5) + 32 = °F

Given, C = F

(C × 9/5) + 32 = C

9C = 5C – 160

4C = -160

C = -40

°C = °F = -40
