PyQt5 QDial – Making Notch Visible

In this article we will see how we can make the notch of QDial visible, by default the notch of QDial is disabled although we can make it visible any time. Notch is basically a series of notches drawn around the dial to indicate the range of values available.

In order to do this we use setNotchesVisible method with the QDial object

Syntax : dial.setNotchesVisible(True)

Argument : It takes bool as argument

Return : It returns None

Below is the implementation

# importing libraries
from PyQt5.QtWidgets import *
from PyQt5 import QtCore, QtGui
from PyQt5.QtGui import *
from PyQt5.QtCore import *
import sys

class Window(QMainWindow):

    def __init__(self):
        super().__init__()

        # setting title
        self.setWindowTitle("Python ")

        # setting geometry
        self.setGeometry(100, 100, 500, 400)

        # calling method
        self.UiComponents()

        # showing all the widgets
        self.show()

    # method for components
    def UiComponents(self):

        # creating QDial object
        dial = QDial(self)

        # setting geometry to the dial
        dial.setGeometry(100, 100, 100, 100)

        # making notch visible
        dial.setNotchesVisible(True)

# create pyqt5 app
App = QApplication(sys.argv)

# create the instance of our Window
window = Window()

# start the app
sys.exit(App.exec())
