In PyQt5, there is an option to set tool tip using setToolTip() method, The tooltip or infotip or a hint is a common graphical user interface element. It is used in conjunction with a cursor, usually a pointer. The user hovers the pointer over an item, without clicking it, and a tooltip may appear as a small “hover box” with information about the item being hovered over.
By default, there is no time limit for tool tip i.e for how much time tip should appear. In this article, we will see how to set tool tip duration for a label. In order to do this we will use setToolTipDuration() method.
Syntax : label.setToolTipDuration(ms)
Argument : It takes integer as argument, which refer to milliseconds.
Action performed : It sets the time duration for label tool tip.
Code :
# importing the required libraries from PyQt5.QtCore import *
from PyQt5.QtGui import *
from PyQt5.QtWidgets import *
import sys
class Window(QMainWindow):
def __init__( self ):
super ().__init__()
# set the title
self .setWindowTitle( "Python" )
# setting geometry
self .setGeometry( 100 , 100 , 600 , 400 )
# creating a label widget
self .label_1 = QLabel( "Label" , self )
# moving position
self .label_1.move( 0 , 0 )
# setting up the border
self .label_1.setStyleSheet( "border :3px solid black;" )
# setting label tool tip
self .label_1.setToolTip( "It is for 5 seconds" )
# setting time duration
self .label_1.setToolTipDuration( 500 )
# show all the widgets
self .show()
# create pyqt5 app App = QApplication(sys.argv)
# create the instance of our Window window = Window()
# start the app sys.exit(App. exec ())
