I would like to share my interview experience for admission to the MTech CSE program under a self-sponsored scheme at IIT Jodhpur. I had applied for the program through their application portal. They had two rounds of selection procedure: Written test and Interview round. Before the selection process all the applicants had an online interaction session with the faculty on the department.
Written Test:
The subject based written test was conducted through online proctored mode. We had MCQs having single and mutiple answer cases and few fill-in-the-ans type as well. The exam covered questions from Gate syllabus with quite a no. of questions based on Data Structures and Engineering Maths.
During our exam, due to some technical issue, they allowed us to give the exam without proctoring. The selected candidates were sent mails regarding their selection in the written exam. Information on Interview and respective slots was also sent.
Interview:
Interview panel had three professors. The interview duration was around 20-25 min. Below are the questions asked during the interview:
- Tell us something about yourself. What subjects have you prepared for the interview?
- Types of scheduling algorithm and which one is better and why?
- What is semaphores and its application?
- Prove that a binary tree with n internal nodes will have n+1 leaf nodes?
- Given a string with uneven spaces between them, rearrange the string in such a way that there is one space between two letters. Then asked to further optimize the approach.
After this my interview was over. From my experience, I can emphasize that preparing for DSA, DBMS and OS is crucial for clearing such interviews. It is also good to have a solid understanding of maths for clearing written tests.
