A number is defined as a mathematical value that is used for the measurement or counting or labeling of different objects. The Number system is the method of representing or naming numbers. It is a mathematical representation of numbers of a given set using digits. There are different types of number systems that are used in maths such as binary, decimal, octal, etc.

There are several types of numbers such as rational and irrational numbers, integers and fractions, natural and whole numbers, odd and even numbers, etc.

Natural numbers are the positive integers that start from 1 and they are denoted by N. Eg, {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,..}.

Whole numbers are the positive integers that start from 0 and they are denoted by W. Eg, {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,…}.

Integers are the set of all the whole numbers and negative numbers and they are denoted by Z. Eg, {…, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2,…}.

Rational numbers are the fractions whose numerator and denominators are integers and they are denoted by Q. Eg, {1/2, 2/3, 4/5, 6/7}.

Real numbers are all the numbers that are written in the form of decimals they are denoted by R. Eg, {0.5, 0.6, 2.7, -0.93,…}.

Square Numbers

A Square number is defined as the number which is multiplied by itself. If a natural number x is represented as y2, where y is also a natural number, then x is a square number. For example, when 4 is multiplied by 4, the final result is equal to the 4 squared (4×4=42=16).

Properties of Square Numbers

The properties of square numbers are given below:

  1. The number that has 2, 3, 7, or 8 as its unit place is never a perfect square.
  2. When there is an even number of zeros at the end of the number, then it is a perfect square number.
  3. When even numbers are squared the result is always even.
  4. When a number x is squared, it is equal to the sum of first x odd natural numbers.

Steps to find the square of a number

Step 1: Write the number in the form of m×m.

Step 2: Multiply the numbers and make sure that the calculation is correct.

Step 3: The final value is the square of the given number m.

What is the square of 265?

Answer:

Given that the number is 265.

Let us write the square of the given number in the form of m×m.

2562 = 256 × 256

2562 = 65536

Hence, the square of 265 is 65536.
