In this article, we will study what are templates in WordPress. Before moving ahead in WordPress templates, we should know about what is WordPress! WordPress is a free and open-source Content Management System(CMS) framework. It is the most widely used CMS framework of recent times.

WordPress Template: Templates are pre-made files that will define how your website will look, the structure of your WordPress website, and the post. Templates give the design to your website.

WordPress has many themes and gives WordPress users more flexibility to customize the design of their website and it gives many templates under one theme. Each of these templates is defined to use in specific situations as per the user’s requirements. 

Templates files are the smallest block that combines to form the web page of the website or we can say that they are building blocks of the WordPress websites. These are just like puzzles blocks that fit together to form the complete website. Some of the templates like header and footers are used on every page of the websites and other templates are used according to the requirement of the user.

In WordPress, HTML decides the structure of the website, and CSS style sheets give the design and color to the website but all these things occur behind the scene with the help of the template files. The template files and the CSS style sheet are stored together as a WordPress theme.

Why we use Templates: The templates files draw information from the WordPress database that is MySQL and generate the frontend of the website through the HTML code and send all the information to the web browser. The web browser displays the website to the user and that’s how the template works in WordPress.

Templates are used to design the web pages by combining the header section, sidebar, content section, and footer of the page all this is made by using the templates. Templates make us convenient were to use each section and widgets on the page and help in designing the header section. It customizes your head section, adds author templates, category templates, tag templates, and many more customizations to your web page of WordPress website.

How to add templates on WordPress website

  1. First, create the page on which you want to add the template. Click on the Add New page.

  2. Here enter the page name and click on the Publish button for publishing the page.

  3. After creating the page, you have to add the plugin name “Elementor” by clicking on Add New plugin. and then click on Activate the plugin.

  4. After adding the “Elementor” plugin, go to the page you have created and then click on edit with Elementor. then click on the folder icon to add the template.

  5. Choose the template you like to add to your website page.

  6. Click on the Insert button to add the template to the website page you have created.

  7. Finally the template is on the page you have created.
