The _.explode() method is used to explode a string into an array of characters.

Syntax:

_.explode( String );

Parameters:

  • String: This method takes a String to explode.

Return Value: This method returns the generated character array.

Note: This will not work in normal JavaScript because it requires the underscore.js contrib library to be installed. Underscore.js contrib library can be installed using npm install underscore-contrib –save.

Example 1:

Javascript

// Defining underscore contrib variable
var _ = require('underscore-contrib');

var a  = _.explode( "GeeksforGeeks" );

console.log("The generated array is : ", a);

Output:

The generated array is : [
  'G', 'e', 'e', 'k',
  's', 'f', 'o', 'r',
  'G', 'e', 'e', 'k',
  's'
]

Example 2:

Javascript

// Defining underscore contrib variable
var _ = require('underscore-contrib');

var a  = _.explode( "Computer Science Portal" );

console.log("The generated array is : ", a);

Output:

The generated array is : [
  'C', 'o', 'm', 'p', 'u',
  't', 'e', 'r', ' ', 'S',
  'c', 'i', 'e', 'n', 'c',
  'e', ' ', 'P', 'o', 'r',
  't', 'a', 'l'
]
