Online Test

Coding Round 1: 86 students appeared for the test. This round was conducted on the HackerEarth platform, which had one coding question with a time limit of 2 hours. The question was to create a calendar appointment system. Four functions were needed to be made explicitly to execute the task. I solved the question by object-oriented programming approach, i.e., creating classes and objects. The question level was challenging. My code cleared 12/14 test cases. Sixteen students were selected for the next round.

Coding Round 2: This was a machine coding round. I got an email containing a pdf that had the question. The objective was to build a fitness booking system that needed the creation of 2 APIs. Creating Backend Database was optional; however, modeling should have been completed. The time allotted was just 1 hour and 30 min. The code and the readme file were attached as a zip file and sent. Ten students were selected for the interviews.

Interview Details

Round 1 (Tech-Product Round)

Duration: 45 to 50 minutes

The interview was conducted on Google Meet. The interviewer was a product engineer with 10+ years of experience. Firstly he introduced himself and then asked for my introduction. After the introduction, he asked me to walk him through my resume. Then he went on to tell me that this round would be a sort of case study based. I had not prepared for case studies as companies generally do not ask for case studies in SDE profile but, to my luck, the case study was sort of familiar to me as I had worked on a project regarding the same and had discussed it in length with one of my friends.

The problem statement was that suppose Udaan entered the B2C market through delivery service and created an app for the same. The feedback of general customers is good regarding the service. I needed to elaborate on the steps that I could take to improve the product to retain new customers who have just started using the app. We had a healthy discussion on this throughout the interview. I suggested several measures we could take and their impact on existing regular customers as well. In the midst, I was pointed out not to think generally and focus on new customers. Hence, I took a two-minute break to gather my thoughts and presented with some more measures solely focused on new customers.

Finally, I was thinking of more measures when the interviewer said that he got what he was looking for and asked me if I had some questions (Tip: Always have a few questions ready and try to make it company-specific). I asked him a few questions, and then the interview ended.

Round 2 (Tech Round)

Duration: 45 to 50 minutes

The interview was conducted on Google Meet. The interviewer was an SDE with 8+ years of experience. Firstly he introduced himself and then asked for my introduction. Then he went on to tell me that this round would be work experience-based. He asked me to walk him through my projects and internship briefly. Then he asked me several questions about my work during the internship and how I achieved certain functionalities. I went on to describe every functionality and how I achieved it. We also discussed the product I worked on, its USP, and decentralization as a whole (The product was based on this).

He then asked me why I chose software development and my motivation behind it. He then asked me if I had some questions. I asked him a few questions specific to the company on recent events.

Verdict: 2 students got the offer including me

Tip for Udaan: They sometimes prefer students with a bit of both product and tech knowledge. They will not have any round specifically related to DSA and will solely focus on your development skills.

Generic Tips:

  1. Just give your best shot without worrying about the results.
  2. Friends help a lot. We had mock interviews (Extremely Helpful) and lengthy discussions on questions, projects, etc. We ranted about anything and everything, which helped keep emotions in check.
  3. Be thorough with your resume.
  4. Prepare HR questions beforehand.
  5. Make notes of everything and anything you learn. It will help you a lot later while preparing for interviews.

Thanks and All The Best.
