Tips on Operating System Installations
Generally we use operating systems to perform day to day tasks. So what would you do if your OS is corrupted or lost, you will try to recover or at last you end up with reinstalling the OS using boot media (Pen Drive, Hard disk etc).
To install the OS you need bootable media (Pen drive, Hard disk etc) and you need boot media creation tools (Such as Nero, Rufus, Windows media Creation tools, etc).
That’s fine, but what happens if you have OS file but no bootable media tools to make Boot Media. Then comes the trick. Follow the steps.
- Take the OS file (mostly it will be in .ISO or .IMG format) and keep it in some folder.
- Then mount the OS File using file manager or any other tools. After Mount you will see files needed for installation.
- Just copy the mounted ISO files to the destination place such that it should in top level directories of the bootable media(like root directory).
- Unmount the ISO file after copying.
- Plug that copied files boot media and boot from BIOS. System will boot from boot media
- By using android phone repeat 1,2,3,4 steps and exclusive 7th step.
- Make sure your android phone is in MSC (Mass Storage Card) Mode. So that bios can detect your phone external storage(memory card) as bootable media.So this bring effective usage of smartphone external storage.
This trick avoids using third party media creation tools(Such as Nero, Rufus, Windows media Creation tools, etc) to create boot media in windows.
- You have copied the files to the boot media, but you don’t want boot from boot media for second time. And you want to boot another OS from same boot media.
- Then copy those First OS installation files(mounted ISO file) into a child directory, so that it can be used for future.(say ‘xyz’ folder name).
- Copy the another OS files to parent directory and plug the media so you can boot to second OS since BIOS can’t see the child directories for booting.
- Again if you want to boot the previous OS installation files, simply copy those files and keep in parent directory. Same as step 3 in 1st trick.
- BIOS can see only root directory for booting, it can’t go into sub folders for the booting. And use the same media for other purposes even boot files are present.
Second trick avoids multiple copying of OS installation files and effective usage of storage since no format is taken as done in other boot media creation tools.
- You can use LIVE OS for emergency purposes, so that we can complete our task without installing the OS.
- And in live OS virus can’t be resident since live OS stays only in RAM. As soon as, you switch off system the OS is lost and your system is virus free.
- By Live OS you can recover data from other partitions(example: D Drive) even if OS partition (example: C drive) is lost completely or system is not booting.
