Thoughtworks Interview Experience (Off-Campus) 2022

Hi there, hope you are doing great. I joined Thoughtworks as an Application Developer consultant in June 2022. When I was preparing for my interviews I have always found Interview experiences quite useful, so I thought maybe I could share my experience as well. I have applied for the role of Application developer via the HackerEarth platform.

So talking about the recruitment process, Thoughtworks hiring for graduate consultants usually has about 4 rounds. 

Round 1: Online Assessments: It was conducted on the HackerEarth platform. It has 2 coding questions and 10 MCQs. I have solved 5 test cases in each program. Topics covered for MCQ are Linux, networking, and guessing the outputs of code snippets. A few days later I got a mail from Thoughtworks for another online test that was conducted on the HackerRank platform which consists of 2 medium-level coding questions. I have solved both of them completely.

Round 2: Code pairing: In this round, I was given a problem statement that has to be solved using OOPs concepts. This round went around 1hr 45mins. Two Thoughtworkers came and they were very friendly. Once I had the working solution and all test cases were passing, they told me to code with a few ideas suggested by them. Once I have coded that they seemed satisfied and ended the round. It might be a little scary to think of coding for 1hr 45mins but trust me it doesn’t feel that long and Thoughtworkers will always navigate you throughout. Round 3: Technical Interview: After round 2 was completed I got a mail after a few hours confirming that I was selected for the next round. In this round again two Thoughtworkers came and lasted for a little over 1hr. They started with the Intro and later landed on the Internship experiences and what technology stack that I have worked on. Later they started with the SQL-queries, database system, and oops concepts. They gave me a library management system as a topic and asked how would I design it and told me to relate it to real-world scenarios. They were keener on conceptual understanding than the syntaxes and language of choice. Once it was done they gave me a coding question related to maps and asked me to explain the algorithm. They were friendly all the time.

Round 4: Social Change and Leadership: This round basically about what’s your take on all the social events and how you being a social being would respond. It did not feel like an interview at all, it was more of talking to someone about society as a whole and there are no correct or wrong answers. In this round as well there were two Thoughtworkers for conducting the interview. It lasted up to 1hr. 

Finally, after 2-3 days I got the call from the recruiter that I got in. It’s the best Interview experience I had so far.
