TCS Interview Experience

Working as a software engineer in a company like TCS sounds very cool and intimidating. Right? Yes!! For me it was.

It’s like a dream job for most of the tier-2 and tier-3 college students. So I was also preparing for it, did spend time on aptitude, objective coding questions and little time in English.

Exam Pattern – It has 4 sections as follows:

English 15 Questions – 10 min time (negative marking)

Aptitude 15 Questions – 30 min time (negative marking)

C-Objective MCQ 10 Questions – 20 min time (negative marking)

Coding ability 1 Question – 30 min time (Language Choices – Java, C, C++, Python, etc)

The exam would be easy to crack, it just required a little preparation and familiarity with the platform would be beneficial. There are lots websites provide mock test with the same platform. I gave 3 mock test, I suggest at least give 2 for practice.

So I cracked the exam and called for the interview at ABES college, Ghaziabad. My time slot for the interview was 1:00 PM, So I reached the center at 12 noon as i was asked to reach before time for document verification.

Now starts the worst part, as there were approx 2 interviews were conducted on the same day in multiple slots. When I reach there, I was asked to wait in the auditorium as the interviews of students from 11 AM slots were still going on. So I waited till 2’o clock just to get my documents verified it took 10 minutes and after that we were asked to get some lunch from the cafeteria or wherever we want. We were asked to be back by 3’o clock for some more waiting before the interview.

After waiting for 3 hours, it was 6’o clock in the evening, I was very tired and frustrated from waiting I even thought of leaving the interview because I don’t want to give my first interview as tired, nervous and frustrated. But anyway, I went into the room, sorry it was in hall conducting 40 interviews at once. I went to my allotted panel of 2 consisting TR and MR. They already had my resume with them-

Q1.) Tell us about yourself?

Ans.) Hello, my name is XYZ , student of final year IT from MLVTEC, Bhilwara. As you have resume, I assume you already know my academic details and skills and I’m looking kick-start my career as a software engineer with an esteemed organization like yours. So I applied for the job.

Q2.) TR – he gave me paper and asked me to write a statement about inc and dec operators and asked me to explain it.

Ans.) Explained it well twice.

Q3.) TR – Tell us about one of your project.

Ans.) I choose my 2nd year Supermarket Billing system in C and explain it for 5 min. As it showed that I remembered it. And then he asked me about file system in C.

Q 4.) MR asked- You have consistently average grades(65-67% in every sem) in college, why is that?

Ans.) Sir, I’m an IT student and most of our subjects were related to electronics and I’m more interested in coding languages as you can see I got good marks in coding subjects and DSA. So I just studied them just to get passing marks.

Q 5.) MR- How would resolve a conflict between your team members if you are the team leader?

Ans.) I don’t remember the answer exactly, but I suggest you prepare for some of these scenarios before hand. And in the

interview answer calmly.

Then they asked me if I have any questions, So I asked about the feedback of what I can improve about me. They didn’t answer as I was hoping instead they told me and wait for the results. So after 20 min of questions I again waited, But this time it was just for 15 min and the list of selected students came and I got selected for the HR round. After 10 min my turn came, I went in the room this time( hahaha ) –

Q1) Tell me about yourself?

Ans.) Same as above with some family details in between.

Q 2.) Are you willing to relocate to a new place?

Ans.) Yes, sir No problem in relocating.

HR- Ok, thank you, You can go now.

So after a whole day of waiting and being little interviewed, I was asked to go home. And after that at home, I got mail “subjected – Greetings from TCS”.

Note- Before going to the interview center have something to eat because they don’t arrange anything you’re on your own.
