Swadhar Greh Scheme focuses on women who are victims of difficult conditions and who require institutional support for rehabilitation. They receive housing, food, clothing, medical care, and social and financial support. Its ultimate goal is to give them the tools they need to successfully restart their lives. The Objective of Swadhar Greh Scheme:

The following strategies would be used to pursue the aforementioned goals:

  • Temporary housing includes access to food, clothing, medical care, and other amenities.
  • Training in vocational and skill advancement for such women’s economic rehabilitation
  • Counselling, bringing about awareness, and behavioural training
  • Legal advice and support
  • Telephone-based counselling

The Beneficiary of Swadhar Greh Scheme:

  • Women who have been abandoned and without social and financial assistance;
  • Women who have survived natural catastrophes and have been made homeless and are not receiving any type of social or economic support;
  • Women inmates who have been released from prison but lack financial, social, and familial support;
  • Women who experience domestic violence, family strife, or are otherwise forced to leave their homes without any means of support and who are not specifically protected from exploitation or from going to court for marital issues;
  • Women and girls who have been trafficked and have been rescued from brothels or other places where they suffer exploitation, as well as HIV/AIDS-affected women who lack social or financial support.

NOTE: In order to meet the aforementioned requirements, the minimum age must be 18. They must not be receiving any financial or social help. Women who are homeless are also addressed. And under the UJJWALA Yojana, such women would first seek aid.

Implementation of Swadhar Greh Scheme

  • State Government institutions, such as Women Development Corporations 
  • Central or State autonomous entities
  • Institutions under the Panchayati Raj, Cantonment Boards, Municipal Bodies, and Cooperatives
  • Departments of Women and Child Development/Social Welfare of the State Governments, may build Swadhar Greh and operate them independently or lease them to the organization(s) with the necessary experience for the time period deemed appropriate,
