Societe Generale visited our college campus in August 2018. Students from CS, IT and ECE were eligible.

Round 1: Online Test
The test consisted of 25 technical MCQs. They were on general concepts like OS, DBMS, etc. Among 150 students 60 people were shortlisted.

Round 2: Group Discussion
Students were divided into 6 groups of 10 people each. 2 minutes were given to each student to speak on the topic and then a 30 seconds conclusion towards the end. There were 2 facilitators from their team.
Some of the topics were:
The ban on cryptocurrency in India. Boon or Bane?
GST. Boon or Bane?
Climate change.

I spoke against the ban of Cryptocurrency and was shortlisted. Around 24 people were shortlisted for the next round.

Round 3: Technical Interview
The interviewer was very nice and polite. It started with tell me about yourself and then the questions were a mix of everything. I was asked to write a code for printing prime numbers between 1 to n. I gave the brute force first then I moved to optimised solution: https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/sieve-of-eratosthenes/.
SQL queries were asked like fetching the nth highest salary from each Department and then was asked to code it in C++. Basic questions of probability, work and time, logical questions, etc. Difference between C and C++.
Real life situations were given to check conflict handling. Successes as a leader. Family background.
Immediately after completing this round I was selected for the next round and sent within 5 minutes.

Round 4: Managerial Round
Started with tell me about yourself. Because I mentioned I like learning new technologies, he asked me to explain in brief: IoT, Blockchain, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, etc. He asked me about my interest in finance. In depth discussion on projects. Major difference between python and other languages.
Behavioral questions like How do you study for your Exams? How do you handle criticism? and other situation based questions.
6 students were shortlisted for HR.

Round 5: HR
Started with my GD topic and why I took the particular side. Then an in-depth discussion about my non-technical ventures in college. All-in-all the interview was going good but towards the end he pointed out to 2 things that he was worried about. Firstly, he asked me about my preference on job location. Bangalore or Chennai? I replied Bangalore. He doubted if I would adapt in Chennai. Secondly, he asked me about my interest in finance to which I replied I am interested. He doubted if I would be interested in pursuing MBA in finance. I tried convincing him against these facts but he didn’t seem satisfied.

4 people were finally placed. I was not one of them.
