The Shramev Jayate Yojana was inaugurated at a function held at Delhi in Vigyan Bhawan on 16th October 2014 by our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji. It is also known as Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Shramev Jayate Karyakram. The development of industries and imparting skill training to the workers are the twin aims of this scheme. Moreover, it aims to ameliorate the conditions of the labours in India. The Ministry of Labor and Employment is the department that looks after the scheme.

Objectives of the Shramev Jayate Yojana Scheme:

  1. To better the conditions of labours in India.
  2. To enhance the appropriate environment for industrial development.
  3. To upgrade the labor laws, and increase consent.
  4. To make it easier to do business in India.

Significant Initiatives of the Shramev Jayate Yojana Scheme:

The Government of India took a few drives under Shramev Jayate Yojana. The five significant initiatives of this plan are:

  1. Shram Suvidha Portal: The Shram Suvidha Portal was established to provide the Labour Identification Number (LIN) to about 6 lakh units, enabling them to submit online compliance reports for 16 of the 44 labour regulations. Its other objective is to make the filing simple and easy by the way of reporting the compliances in a single harmonized form.
    Through this, labour Inspector can upload the inspection report within the time period of 72 hours. This ultimately results in the timely redressal of grievances.
  2. Labour Inspection Scheme: The objective of the Labour Inspection Scheme is to bring transparency to the labour inspection. The arbitrary nature of the compliance process will be checked via a transparent inspection scheme. On behalf of the Prime Minister, an SMS and email were issued to 1800 Labor inspectors of various enforcement agencies right after the inauguration of this scheme.
  3. Launching of the Universal Account Number: The number is allotted to all the laborers. The UAN is connected to the Aadhaar Card, Bank account, and other KYC details for their extraordinary distinguishing proof. The UAN has a total record of approx. 4.17 crore endorsers.
  4. Revamped Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana: Its objective is to increase the social security of the working class in the unorganized sector. The introduction of a Smart Card was made in the unorganized sector for the workers. Health Insurance will also be provided to the workers of the unorganized sector which will improve their conditions.
  5. Apprentice Protsahan Yojana: The Apprentice Protsahan Yojana was inaugurated by the government in 2014 with the aim to bring more establishments and youth into manufacturing and related sectors. This was done to make use of the advantages of the apprenticeship training scheme. The Yojana aimed to support approximately 1 lakh apprentices up to March 2017.

Achievements of the Shramev Jayate Yojana Scheme:

  • The wage ceiling of the labourers got increased from RS 6500 to Rs 15,000 per month.
  • A lot of corruption has seeped into the system leading to the over-exploitation of the workers that have come to the notice of the authoritative attention. In order to deal with all this, the Shram Suvidha Portal was inaugurated which provided a transparent system for the information and the management of the labor resources throughout India.
  • Whenever there is an exploitation of labors, there will be a Unified Labour Portal established by the Yojana that would stand for the rights of the labourers.
