What is Samarth Scheme?

The Government of India launched the “SAMARTH” project in 2017 to equip workers and young with the skills necessary to produce more advanced and superior textile goods for the industry. They receive training through this programme, and they can either apply their gained abilities on their own or work in the textile industry. This programme aims to increase the number of skilled workers in the nation. In 2017, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave its approval. The main goal is to train about 10 lakh youths and it is implemented by the Ministry of Textiles.

Features of the Samarth Scheme:

  • The Samarth programme intends to benefit young people who are interested in beginning careers in the textile sector.
  • Within the period 2017 to 2020, the Indian government will choose roughly 10 lakh young people to deliver training under the programme.
  • The Indian government has established a financial plan for carrying out the programme in the textile industry.

Implementation of the Samarth Scheme:

  • The following implementing agencies would carry out the programmes under this scheme. They are textile industries, institutions involved with the textile industry and training centres in this field.
  • In order to carry out the plan, a monitoring and management system will be put in place to keep track of all the activities and compile all data records in one location.
  • This system will be used for all work, information, notices, and related documents. For all works linked to the scheme, there is only one central system.
  • To contact everyone, call centres and helplines will also be set up.
  • Additionally, a mobile app-based management information system will be used.
  • The following 18 states have signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding). These are: Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Jammu & Kashmir, Mizoram, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tripura, Odisha, Haryana, Manipur, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, and Jharkhand

Significance of the Samarth Scheme:

  • Women would be given 20% of the seats in the free skill development programmes conducted under the ministry’s skill development programmes. Over 7500 women will gain from this.
  • Under the marketing assistance programmes put in place by the Ministry, also MSME business delegations sent to domestic and foreign exhibits and  20 percent will be made up of women-owned MSMEs.
  • The 20% Off the annual processing charge for NSIC’s Commercial Schemes
  • Young people and workers will receive training in the development of textile-related skills and get employment opportunities.
